About Mrs. Lime

Un-Veiled

February 16th, 2007 @ 9:31 am by Mrs. Lime

I’m technically on wedding planning hiatus right now as I’ve got some other oh-so-fun stuff to take care of. I can’t seem to keep myself away, though. I had a few appointments set up before I decided to take this break, and I somehow ended up surfing online all last night for bridesmaids dresses instead of taking care of that other stuff.

Last weekend, I visited a lady who makes custom veils and sells them from home. Each veil is custom made, and she has samples of various styles, lengths, and decorative details for you to try. Best of all, her prices are slightly better than veilshop.com or Occansey Designs.

Being the crazyhead I am, I decided to take my dress with me to get the full effect. I’ve especially been struggling with what length I like, and I wanted it to relate to my dress’ length. Please excuse the horrible photos, but it’s the best I could do while backlit and using a mirror.

I’ll be doing a drop veil. We’ll [as in a MOH, BM, or my mom] attach it so that the blusher is about elbow length.

The veil lady and I initially decided a custom cathedral length (just short of my full train length) worked well. However, after sleeping on it, I realized that this klutzy potato would most definitely catch it on something while taking pre-ceremony photos. Our second favorite length for the back was the following:

I believe it’s fingertip length, but on shorty me, it’s a little longer than that.

The final verdict: I’ll have a 75″ overall length drop veil, cut edge, slightly oval shape cut so it’s fuller in back than front, elbow length blusher, slightly-longer-than-fingertip length back.

I’ll post a full review and contact information once I get the final product in about a week or two.

Ohhh, I’m SO torn between a drop veil and a regular veil!! I Love the look of the drop veil, but am worried it will make me look too “flat” on top (not saying that you do! it looks gorgeous!!). I definitely dont want too much poof, thats all I know… *sigh*

Wow, your dress is beautiful!!!!! My dress is similar and I was thinking of doing a cathedral length veil. But this seems really pretty too. When you lift the blusher how does it stay on your head? Or can yo only wear it while it is over your face.

Thanks, all, for your comments!

ldsbride + jjk529 - I will be posting information once I have the finished product in hand. She’s been really great so far, but I don’t want to review her work prematurely. She should be done with it in the next week, but it might take a little longer as I am going to pick it up from her place in North OC (she also does ship for a reasaonable fee, but I pass through North OC many weekends).

Miss Emerald, I’m going for the “flat” look. I’m anti-poof (although the skirt of my dress is pretty poofy ;)).

Alyson, drop veils are fixed to your hair with some sort of hat pin or embellished hairpin/bobby pin, usually. Many veilmakers will attach a clear comb, too, if you wish. You just fold the blusher part back like any other veil, and it will “fold” at the point where it’s fixed to your hair.

I would strongly advise NOT to use myregistry.com. It is a NIGHTMARE dealing with them. Our friends registered there and I have spent several hours trying to make a purchase to no avail. My wife then at least “Reserved” the item we want to purchase and now I cant even get in to attempt to purchase it.
They send emails insisting our login works but it definitely does not.

Your pics look very Teness Herman with the blue tinge. ;)

I did a waltz length. With your fingertip being slightly longer than the usual fingertip on a taller person, you’re almost at waltz!

Everything looks great, chica.

You look beautiful! :) I love how the veil just seems to make the whole bridal look come together. I think the drop veil choice is perfect for you.
