Well after all the doubts and worries, my parents were able to come up just one day late–yesterday!
The bridal shop was very busy when we got there–for such a tiny shop, anyway. It’s heavy into prom season, so there were lots of high school girls looking for dresses. But I was the only bride. ![]()
I’ve heard horror stories of girls who see their “the dress” again and (gasp!) don’t like it anymore. I was really afraid that would happen to me. It didn’t - I loved my dress just as much as the first time I tried it on! But everything else? Meh.
Mom spent a good half-hour lacing me tightly into my gown, then I put on my shoes and veil, and the seamstress/shop owner started pinning me up and in every which way. Apparently I’ve lost weight since I bought the dress, as my dress is now loose in all areas. It still fits; just needs a bit more alterations. ![]()
I had bought these shoes at DSW last summer, right after getting my dress (they’re by Caparros):

And I still think they’re really pretty. But when I put them on with my gown, I wasn’t impressed. Something about my toes looked funny. The color was ever-so-slightly off, and they just…didn’t look right. I mentioned this to the shop owner, and she said “Oh! I know of the perfect shoes for you!” then brought me these babies:

The brand is Colorful Creations. Never heard of it before, but the shoes are super cute and comfy so you won’t find me complaining. I know they look pretty similar to my other shoes , but on my feet (and in comparison to the gown) there’s a world of difference. They’re a deep golden color that’s not showing up too well here, and it really brings out the dimension in my gown’s embroidery. I really didn’t know changing a shoe could make such a difference, but WOW. Now I’m psyched. ![]()
I also brought along my earrings and pearl necklace, at your all’s suggestion. And, surprisingly, I was pretty indifferent to the earrings when I saw them with my dress. With the pearl necklace too, it was just…not good. I had actually thought the earrings would look pretty good, but alas. So the shop’s owner kindly brought me these:

Close up of the earrings:

And this necklace (faux pearls, and just a couple inches shorter than my real pearl necklace. Those couple inches make a world of difference):

I also love its glittery gold clasp, which falls front and center. All this gold helps accentuate the gold colors in my gown and really brings the ensemble together like I never knew was possible!
Oh yeah, and I also decided to change my veil. My old one was pretty similar, but shorter–it fell about midway down the bodice of my gown. I <3′ed the ivory ribbon edging, but wasn’t that wild about the length. Yesterday, they had the same thing only about 12″ longer, and with a double layer/blusher (which I won’t be wearing over my face)!
Major yay’s for this:

Here it is hanging off a VS bag:

I loved my old veil, and I’m shocked that I could love one even more. But I do!
Wow…so many changes! But at least my dress is the same.
And this round of alterations will be done on March 6th– I can’t wait! My gown was soooo full of pins!
Finally, one last gratuitous “ugly and awkward” pic (I was attempting to scratch my upper leg through my Spanx, here). Of course, my mom caught it on film:

Finally finally, here I am “sitting” on my massive bustle. Miss Blueberry the giant glowing flash-head bustle sitter:

It was a good day, friends.
