Invitations On The Way

February 19th, 2007 @ 3:39 pm by Mrs. Apple

Out of sight, out of mind and out of worries…

I really liked the end product of my invites, though a lot of time and patience was involved in selecting, purchasing, and semi diy-ing it.

I chose Gold Wedding Pockfetfold invites from Custom Programs. I love my invites but can’t say the same for Custom Program’s service. The first bad sign was when I ordered samples that never arrived. So after waiting 2 weeks or so, I contacted her again and she said she would Fedex a new sample. Supposedly, mine and a couple other samples got lost in the mail (postal service fault). Upon receiving my package, I opened up the envelope to see the invites in sage green. I requested the sample in Ecru Micah. Then, I had the issue with the wrong city printed on the rsvp and outer envelopes. Overall, I’d give Custom Programs a “B” grade. She was really good about replying back to my emails quickly and was always available either by phone or email.

Instead of using the exterior seal they offer, I purchased sage color ribbon at a local crafts store. I really wanted to use real wax, but I’d heard so many mailing horror stories so I opted for faux wax. I purchased the custom hand stamper from Waxseals, a company based out of Canada. The quality and craftsmanship of the stamper is an A+. I love it and will use it forever.

We went to so many crafts and supply stores in search of double sided glue gun in order to seal our invites. We even tried to use tape rollers and/or glue but that turned out to be a disaster. It wouldn’t seal properly or the glue would start to warp the invite. After searching online I found some double sided glue guns that cost over $50, but I couldn’t justify spending that much on a one time invite project. Plus, I’m thrifty and didn’t want to spend that much on a glue gun alone.

I finally caved in and bought an awesome Kokuyo Tape n Roller double sided dispenser and roller refill cartridge from Custom Programs - it cost me $33 for 33ft of tape. It worked soo well! A definite must purchase when assembling invites.

Here are some snapshots I took of the invites.

Here is the custom hand stamper - it looks like scribbles but is so pretty when stamped.

Wow! They look amazing. How much did it end up costing you per invite?

I really love how your invites came together. From the moment I saw pocket invites I knew that they would be the style I would choose for my own. I can’t believe you put those together yourself! Who did the printing and design of the inserts and announcement itself?

did you buy the faux wax (i’m assuming they were glue gun sticks) at http://www.waxseals.com too? I can’t seem to find the section where they sell the wax glue sticks on the website.

Thanks everyone!

KP: No, I ordered this design from Custom Programs. If I had time and enough creativity, I would totally do the design. haha.

Itzmzplz: With all printing costs, inserts, design, and invite it totaled around $7.00 per invite. With the seal and the ribbon it averaged another $1.00 so total around $8.00 an invite.

Days: All printing and design of the inserts was from Custom Programs. I picked the type style/font, placement of text, and information.

splo: Yes, I purchsed the glue sticks from Wax Seal. You can pick the color selection of the glue stick too. The best thing to do is call him - he’s super nice and is really fast with any questions you may have. I would also suggest purchasing the peel and stick because without it you would permanently glue the seal and the invite (unless that is what you wanted). Good luck! let me know if you need anymore help! =)

So pretty Barbara! You put me to shame. I finally finally submitted my design to the printer’s…. a couple of days ago. Hehehe. It took me that long to put my foot down on a design after I went through about 12 — I am my own worst design client ever! I’ll post pics once I get ‘em back!! :) Congrats on beauuutiful invites!

I had a great experience with them too for my programs and menu cards–and I’m glad that it all worked out for you in the end. Your invites look beautiful, and that is a great price–mine were at least as expensive and they were DIY!

Katie - They also printed my address on the outside envelope for me and the color was a creme envelope color. I can send you a picture of the exterior envelope, just email me the request! =)

I loved your seals to much that I ordered them to be delivered tomorrow. Totally excited, of course I am NOT telling my FI how much I paid for it :-), but the big question now is can I send my envelops out with the seal by USPS??? Miss Apple - you’ll have inside the envelop right? please help :-)))

Cammie; I would suggest purchasing the $59 dollar glue gun only if you will use it more often and if you do lots of diy projects. The kokuyo worked just fine for me and was more cost effective for me. Good luck!

Kate: did u get the faux wax seals and the peel and stick? If so, you should be fine. Just make sure to get them “hand cancelled” when you drop them off at the post office. Hand cancelling means the postal office worker cancels them by hand and it will not get destroyed (in your case esp the seals) so it skips going through the machines. Make sure to get the correct postage. With the weight of the seal and invite my invites came out to be 69 cents. So this is very important. I did a test trial by sending myself an invite to myslef and it came back to me perfect with the seal intact plus u can keep it as a keepsake. Hope this helps! Let me know if you need any further info. -)
