About Beehive

Beehive

February 20th, 2007 @ 4:34 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  • lisabaobei’s reception venue is providing her with a maitre’d but she’s getting married at an offsite church. Does she still need a day of coordinator? She’s also looking for ceremony musicians in Northern NJ, and timeline suggestions for a Chinese ceremony, Korean ceremony, and Sunday service spread out over her Easter wedding weekend.
  • kandaceandjason is looking for a bridesmaid dress like this but in purple. Any suggestions?
  • future mrs. c is looking for quality, affordable envelopes in ivory or ecru for her std’s and invites. Suggestions?
  • Li is looking for a hair/makeup person, florist ($2000 budget), and cake baker for her July 07 New York wedding. She’s contacted many of the artists used by the bees, but they’re all booked. Any recommendations?
  • jmnz’s FI wants Chinese fingertraps as favors instead of the good luck I ching coins in red envelopes or lucky candy in bamboo steamers taht she wants. Does she add his toys in to make him happy or ignore it and hope it goes away?
  • Miss Bluebear is looking for a nonreligious officiant in LI. How did you find yours?

future mrs. c -

I am currently looking for envelopes too (today, actually!)
Envelopemall.com has the best prices I’ve seen. Paperandmore.com has really great quality products as well, but is a bit more costly.

I have a problem that I’d appreciate help with: my FI is using one of his few vetos and would like to use Chinese fingertraps as a favor instead of the good luck I Ching coins in red envelopes or the lucky candy in mini bamboo steamers. Do I add his toys in (they’re really cheap) to make him happy or ignore it and hope that it goes away?

future mrs. C-
I’ll second envelopemall.com. I got 100 chocolate for brown envelopes for 9.99 for my save the dates. Shipping was superfast and the quality is really good. I’m thinking about using them as inner envelopes with my paper-source invitations.

future mrs. c — I don’t know how much you want to spend, but I found the luxe envelopes at paperource.com both of excellent quality and pretty affordable. I used them for my invitations, and they went really well with the handmade paper of my invites. I also used the regular papersource invites for my STDs — lower cost, but still pretty nice IMO. Good Luck!

lisabaobei’s - try the rose trio from cranford, nj or amaryllis ensemble. both can be found on the knot. I got sampling from quite a few in NJ and found those two to be quite good and affordable. As for hair and makeup, check out http://www.bridalbymichele.com She’s quite nice and has some nice styles on http://www.brides.com. Good luck!

jmnz - why not add them in? they’re definitely quirky and a lot of fun. plus, it’s not like you’d break the bank adding them. it is his wedding too and is a simple enough request.

Can anyone help me out with a non religious officiant for my ceremony? Where did you find yours? My wedding will be in Long Island. Please help. Thanks! =)

jmnz:

I would add the chinese fingertraps. I always had fun playing with those as a child…in fact I still have one from a friend’s 5th birthday party. Little kids can be entertained with those for hours. Not that I was one of those kids or anything. ;-)

jmnz, I like the fingertraps toos =) Maybe I just have a cruel sense of humor though, lol. Or if you want to compromise, why not just give out both fingertraps and lucky coins? You said they don’t cost much anyway, right?

jmnz - i say add them. i think people will actually love them!

Miss Bluebear, we used a judge out of LI. He was great, but spoke a little too fast… you can talk to him about that tho. He’ll let you create any type of ceremony you want. Let me look up his contact info.

jmnz,
I think you should add them, too. FI deserves a say in the goings on. I think fingertraps would be cute, and I think a lot of people will enjoy them. As you said, they’re pretty cheap, so it wont hurt you too much to just add them in.

Thanks Miss Almond. Do you know of anyone perhaps based in NY? Since my wedding is in midtown, I am trying to find someone local.

kandaceandjason - that’s tough; that fifties style dress isn’t too common these days. You could get a strapless dress in purple and then add satin ribbons on an angle for the sleeves. If you added satin trim to the bottom it would mimic the double-layer look that dress has, and pull make the sleeves look more coordinated too.

This is available in lavender, I don’t know if you were looking for a light purple or a dark purple! http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2888254/0~2376776~2374327~2374331~6001837?mediumthumbnail=Y&origin=category&searchtype=&pbo=6001837&P=1

Miss Blue Bear

Thank you Mrs. Bee, I will call him and let’s cross our fingers! =)

lisabaobei,
I highly recommend http://www.designsbyroseinc.com she works out of her home in Far Rockaway, but she makes housecalls too, so maybe you could schedule something with her. Her prices are very reasonable! Good Luck!

Go Amie,

Thanks so much for your help! Our wedding is in October so I think a dark purple would work better, but if I took your suggestion and added both a faux double hem and maybe a thick sash around the waist both in deep purple, it could work. It would definitely be a start!
