About Mrs. Strawberry

Finally

February 20th, 2007 @ 4:01 pm by Mrs. Strawberry

I finally got my wedding dress this weekend. FINALLY. After weeks of nightmares that it was my wedding day and I still needed to go dress shopping, and that I forgot to ask for the day off….I have a wedding gown!

I had been dreading the whole process. I’m not a small girl. I didn’t want to be measured and I didn’t want to start crying when none of the dresses fit me. But I sucked it up. I went tanning and had my hair extensions in…so I tried to look as hot as I possibly could! :) I must say, that it wasn’t as horrible of an experience as I thought it would be.

I made two appointments. One at Marcella’s in downtown Seattle for Saturday, and one at the Bridal Garden in Kirkland on Sunday. Marcella’s was having a Vera Wang trunk show. I wasn’t expecting to buy anything - it was after all, my first time trying dresses on.

I tried on three dresses. The first was a strapless taffeta number. I looked horrible. And about 100 pounds heavier. Not hot. The salon gushed about how beautiful I looked. Not true. My mom agreed with me.

On to the second dress. A halter number with pickups. Much better. I didn’t really like the dress, but it looked waaaaay better on me. Very slimming. I knew that strapless was out. Again, the salon people gushed.

On to the third dress. It was the one in the window that had caught my eye. This was the one. It has thick straps that lay at the very edge of my shoulders. V-neck. A-line. Asymmetrical bunching from one shoulder, down the bodice and to the floor. I was in love. The salon people showered me in compliments. It was a bit much to be honest. I mean I looked good…but not THAT good! :) I seriously can’t handle compliments.

I would post a picture of the dress, but I’m afraid Mr. Strawberry might check weddingbee! :( The only bad part of the whole experience was the measuring afterwards. Being in my bra and underwear in front of a total stranger with my ASS right in her face…I was mortified. The good? We got 10% off! Gotta love that!

as i said on your xanga…

oh i was *gushed* at too by my dress consultant… i showed her pictures and told her what i liked and disliked and apparently she got them confused… she kept bringing me these horrible dresses that “just look adorable” on me *gag* not until i was fed up did i get dressed and got ready to go… i passed another consultant holding a slew of dresses to put back on the racks and i found the perfect one!! it was an allure bridals dress for ‘07 part of a trunk show and i haven’t seen it in any other salon that i’ve gone to since…. so excited, can’t wait till it gets here!

good luck with your order and dress fittings! I’m sure you’ll be a gorgeous bride!

I went to Marcellas too and they had really wonderful dresses they also had the fakest staff of all the places I went to (and I went to all the main dress shops in Seattle). I almost bought mine there but ended up finding “the one” at a different shop. I am so glad that found your dress! Check one thing off the list!

You have the same fears I do — I haven’t been looking for a dress yet, but I almost just want to go buy a dress without trying it on and having it properly fitted because I am so paranoid at the thought of standing in front of someone I don’t know wearing next to nothing while they are actually measuring me. I’m just too much of a private person — no thank you!!
