For The Little Ones

February 20th, 2007 @ 1:07 pm by Mrs. Plumeria

For our wedding, the roles of flowergirl and ringbearer are both held by children who are very dear to us. I picked out a flowergirl dress that I thought was adorable a while ago and ran it by the little girl’s mother (my future sister-in-law) and my future mother-in-law. When both of them heartily agreed that it was one of the cutest dresses out there, I ordered it. I only have one FG, so I didn’t mind that the price was a bit higher than most dresses; I only had to buy one. (I’ll post pics when it comes in!)

However, for those of you who have several little ones or are looking for cheaper options than what’s offered in the bridal realm, I was at Target the other day and saw some worthy flowergirl dress contenders. I presume they’re in for Easter, judging from the white straw hats adorned with plastic flowers in the accompanying display, but if your colors happened to match, they could pass for wedding apparel in a heartbeat. Here are some of the pickings, from Target.com:

that first one is adorable…. do you think it would match with my sage green motif?

Our flower girls are wearing the first dress you posted. I think it is so adorable. I just couldn’t believe my eyes when I just happened upon it.

That’s exactly what I did last Easter for my FG. It was pretty early so I bought it a little big and it was perfect for the wedding…grand total = $15.

I’m totally excited to find dresses after Easter. The only problem is that I will have to guess-timate size cuz my weddings not til September.

May: If you have pink or brown (or both) accents at your wedding, I think the first one might be able to work — also depends how important matching everything exactly is to you. And there is that pale green one farther down in the lineup in the post that could go well with sage green. I think there may be other colors at the store, too, so go by and take a look. :)

Other places you can also look are JcPenney’s and Sears during their Easter sales.

Miss Plumeria,

This is totally off topic so excuse me for the interruption. Fi and I will be in S.F. for 4 days (this weekend) and on Saturday, I am meeting up with some former knotties, etc. for lunch. It’s not confirmed yet but possibly in the union square area? I would like to know if you would like to join us? Coincidently, I am the latest weddingbee recruit and I happen to be going to S. F. which is a rare occassion so it would be wonderful if we can meet! Email me.

Don’t wait on easter dresses — buy the dresses as soon as you can. I made that mistake last year. They go fast and (obviously) aren’t replenished. And I don’t think JCpenney is doing flower girl dresses this year. It seemed even last year they were inching out of it. This year it isn’t on the web site.

If you don’t care about accessories, it pays to wait however. I didn’t want to buy gloves for my flower girls for retail price. After first communion season I got two pairs for .99 each. You might find little easter purses that would make nice gifts for the girls real cheap.

If you have 2 flower girls in two different size ranges (I had a 14 and a 6x) you might have trouble getting them from the stores (not all stores seem to carry easter and communion dresses in 14). I got mine eventually from Jessica McClintock. More expensive than the Easter dress route (Drat!) but still cheaper and less hassle than a salon.
