Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!
About Mrs. Kiwi

Our Florist is the Coolest

February 20th, 2007 @ 12:31 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

I think we’ve been pretty lucky with the wedding planning so far. Every local vendor we’ve met with we’ve loved, so we tried not to stray too far. This was the case with Laura Ferre, a floral designer in our hometown of Culver City, CA.

As I mentioned previously, she was suggested by a parent at Mr. Kiwi’s school. Working out of her home for fun, she doesn’t have a lot of overhead because she goes to the flower marts herself. Having children who are grown, she only does floral designing to have something to do, which is also great for us - she doesn’t rely on jobs like ours to pay the bills!

We met her at her home/studio, and she was very personable, welcoming us right in. On her table she had books of jobs she had done previously and a list of the things I said we wanted. As we talked more about the vision I was imagining, she gave me suggestions or things we could do to make it a little more cost-effective, which I really appreciated. She knows our venue and has been there many times, so knows just what we’d need. Laura wasn’t just “okay” with us not needing centerpiece flowers, she told us how smart it is get candles instead of expensive flowers.

She said to expect an email today with a full listing of what we need, along with different options for prices for each item if we substitute different flowers, or less blooms, things like that. I’ll update once I receive the email! One good thing? She guarantees that we won’t find anyone cheaper!

When Mr. Kiwi and I were talking on the way home, I said that it’s great to get such personal attention, at a price you’d expect to get a little less attention. Mr. Kiwi said that he’d be willing to pay more for the actual one on one treatment, so we’re very happy!

We confirmed the schedule and agreed on what time we’d need our flowers by that day, an hour before the ceremony, which isn’t a trouble since she lives five minutes away from our venue!

WOW that really does sound perfect!!! Congrats!!! By any chance, does she feel like flying out to NY (paying for her own travel of course) and doing our flowers too?? ;-)

That’s the way my baker is. She lives five minutes away from our venue, works from home, and was super duper nice and gave a lot of suggestions.
There should be more vendors like that!!

That sounds very ideal. Do you know if she does any traveling at all? like San Diego?

Great find!
