Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!
About Mrs. Kiwi

A Tentalizing Subject

February 21st, 2007 @ 1:03 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

It’s hard to explain to people that our ceremony will be in a tent. I know that when I was first asked about possibly having our wedding in the tent, I thought girl scout tents and camping trips. While I have seen the peaks of the tent from the 405 southbound freeway, it never occurred to me that we’d be having our wedding ceremony there.

I’ve been told that receptions can also be held there, but it’s kind of a small place for a reception to be held. Still, for a ceremony venue it is a-ok. Because of its various uses, it’s really just a big empty space, filled with tables for a party or folding chairs for a ceremony. The only thing missing for me are pews, but whatever.

So, when I broached the topic of decorating the aisles with our florist, she mentioned something I didn’t really consider. Laura’s take on it was to keep the focus up front - where Mr. Kiwi and I would be exchanging our vows, possibly with an arch decorated with ivy, small bunches of flowers, maybe some tulle; or having two potted plants frame our vow exchange.

I’m actually glad that I have no pews to decorate, and no added expense to have to worry about, even though I do love the look of a beautiful church with glossy pews. I really must say that I am so glad we didn’t go the DIY route, because I have no idea where I’d find a tree or two to rent. :)

Anyway, what do you think would be more interesting? Two potted trees (in my head I’m seeing roundish) with some possible fairy lights? Maybe some tulle? Maybe some pomanders hanging from the trees? Or an arch (indoor) decorated with tulle, ivy, some flowers and maybe some other items?

i’m actually not a fan of tulle at all - maybe i’m just not girly enough. altho i think i do remember martha doing something with tulle awhile back and it looking great… but she’s the inimitable martha! :D

the benefit of having the trees is you could use them again in your reception to maybe flank the dj, your sweetheart table, or reception entry. so you’d get more bang for your buck. an elegant shaped topiary just by itself or with some flowers in it would look great!

I like the tree idea. In the giant Martha Stewart wedding book there is a picture of ‘veiled topiaries’ where they basically cover the trees in tulle- I think it looks really neat. You could buy the trees and eventually plant them in your yard (keep them in pots until then if you don’t have a yard of your own yet).

I am trying to imagine veiled topiaries or trees and how that looks different from a TP’d yard!

Miss Emerald, it WAS!!! I think Mrs. Bee changed it? But yeah, the whole point to using “tantalizing” was to use TENTalizing! It made more sense the way I had it, I think.

I’ve seen the veiled topiaries on the MS Weddings website in one of the photo files.

I definitely vote trees before an arch.

I also vote trees before arch. Before we moved our wedding into a church, I was researching arches, and they all tended to look a little cheesy.
