Something Favorable Appears

February 21st, 2007 @ 5:09 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

I was looking through one of my bridal mags (I think it was Brides) and there was a Michael’s pullout. On the back there was a coupon for 25% off your entire wedding purchase! Bargain! So, I took my old man (not Mr. Kiwi, my dad) to the Santa Monica branch where we prepared to do some shopping.

I spent a lot of time (and money) at two different Michael’s. We needed to pick up the rest of the centerpiece candles (14 in all), and more of the colored marbles that we’re using in our hurricane vases. That’s a whole ‘nother subject, though.

As we were on our way out, I saw a display of favor boxes by Gartners. They had many varieties.

The clear box which has 50 in a kit and comes with the tags and ribbons:

And these odd monument shaped boxes, also with ribbons and tags and 50 in a kit (it wasn’t this version):

I actually really liked this one, but Mr. Kiwi said it reminded him of a wine box? Don’t even ask me what that meant. I do like the idea of doing leaf tags, though.

Then, there was this one, unfortunately coming with a black ribbon, but in a classic square box, 50 in a kit.

This is the one we’re going with. And since we need 150, I bought three at $19.99 - with the 25% off coupon I saved a ton! We’re planning on using a different ribbon, and we will either do a stamp or a punch in the little circle, an acorn or leaf. Another possiblity is to use a monogram sticker a friend had made for us.

We haven’t yet decided what to fill the favor boxes with, because my taste for different candies changes daily. :) While I know these boxes are common, I really love them. I just love little boxes.

The 3rd box was a pain in the rear! We used them as our favors. Make sure you crease the sides or the box pops open when you try to assemble it. The stickers didn’t hold the heavy ribbon as well, so I bought a thin spool of ribbon and tied it in a cute bow. We also put hershey kisses in them with the colors of our wedding.

Tristan, thanks SO much for the heads up! I haven’t even tried them yet- and I’m glad we bought spools of thinner ribbon already!

I am using the same boxes that you picked out from Michaels and putting personalized M&Ms in them for a friend’s wedding. I too will be using a different ribbon - probably a satin ribbon instead of the black one it came with.

Dumb question, but does it include online purchases? We don’t have a Michael’s here.

Just a heads up, Joanns, Hobby Lobby and Michael’s accept competitor’s coupons. So you should be able to use this coupon at Joanns.

Also, Michael’s doesn’t sell online.

At some Michael’s they sell the plain Gartner box for about half the cost of the full kit. They sell more boxes in these as well — I think double the number. It’s a value if you don’t want the black ribbon or don’t like the stickers.

You can buy the kits online at Gartnerstudios.com. There’s a hilarious (yet disturbing) commercial on that site (brideasylum.com) that’s also worth a look. It’s worth going online for some insane clearance sales they have on products.

How did your friend make the stickers? I need one to seal my envelopes. Thanks!

jk, actually my friend designed the monogram, and I had it made into 3×3 stickers at stickers123.com or something like that. :) Good luck!
