V-Day, Part Deux

February 21st, 2007 @ 11:26 am by Mrs. Pearl

This weekend, Mr. Pearl took me for V-Day, Part Deux. The location of the trip was kept a secret up until we got to South Orange County…he even took roundabout freeways on the way there to keep me in suspense. :) We ended up going to San Diego, one of our favorite towns for a quick getaway.

We ended up leaving much later than we planned on Friday, so we missed our dinner reservation there. We stayed at the Hilton in the Gaslamp District, which was very cute! On Saturday morning, we were exhausted from our late night, but Mr. Pearl made an appointment that we had to keep. He surprised me with a day at the San Diego Wild Animal Park, which is not only a zoo-type atmosphere (and btw, I LOVE zoos), but also one of the nation’s foremost natural conservatories (as they work on the conservation of not only animals, but plant life as well).

The extra special surprise was a reservation for the Cheetah Run Safari. They take only a small group of people out to the area where they run the cheetahs for exercise daily. It was really neat to see a cheetah run full out at about 60 miles per hour! The coolest part was that on that particular day, they allowed us to take a picture with the cheetah! We now have two pics we bought from the Wild Animal Park — one with me near, but not too near the cheetah and smiling and one where I’m much closer and look very nervous! When I get the pictures scanned, I’ll post them for all to see.

Later that night, he took me for a romantic dinner at the Hotel Del Coronado, then we had a walk on the beach. 1…2…3…awww! On Sunday morning, we had brunch at the Hotel Del’s famous Crown Room. I was full from late morning-early afternoon all the way through dinner time! If you’ve never been and you have the chance to visit San Diego, I highly recommend you go. On a wedding-related bent, the Hotel Del Coronado is also a beautiful place to host a wedding. I saw several different spots that would make gorgeous ceremony and reception venues. :)

What a romantic Valentine’s treat for you! I am from San Diego, and am a new transplant to LA. I have to agree with you, the Hotel Del is wonderful. My mom is a wedding coordinator in San Diego and has done several weddings there- they are very expensive, but turn out fabulous!!!

Awesome! How cute! San Diego is a nice weekend getaway spot! Mike and I are going to San Diego in April or May I can’t remeber now. We saw a special for $110 a night for the SD Hyatt by Gaslamp! Have a great week!
