Happy [Belated] Chinese New Year!

February 22nd, 2007 @ 6:12 pm by Mrs. Lime

The wedding I attended last Saturday happened to fall on Chinese New Year. I don’t think the couple originally knew that 2.17.07 would coincide with the lunar holiday, but it worked out well as they did the 10-course Chinese wedding banquet. Their table placecards were very cute and appropriate - red envelopes!

I forgot to take a closeup photo of the envelope, but the big gold embossing has the double happiness character and a Precious Moments bride and groom kissing. They then put a gold label up top with each guest’s name and table number.

Since the favors were the photobooth photos, there wasn’t anything inside these red envelopes. A strip of three photos (after chopping the fourth off to put in the guestbook) from the photobooth fit perfectly inside, though, which was nice. For any future Chinese New Year’s brides, it would be a great idea to put a crisp dollar in. Especially since once you’re married, it’s time to start giving these babies out.

the red envelopes are a pretty cool idea. i don’t think i would have thought of that on my own.

i tried to get one from my mom but i couldn’t remember the korean blessing for the new years. instead all i could say was “shrimp fried rice.” needless to say i’m without my envelope this year.
