See The City

A while back, I was dining in one of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles with Mr. Pearl when we started talking about how awesome it would be for a reception venue. The restaurant, Windows, is located on the top floor of the SBC Tower in downtown LA. True to its name, there are windows all around the restaurant, allowing for spectacular views of the city. The atmosphere is lovely and the food is downright sublime. I’ve turned a couple people onto this somewhat unknown restaurant. :)

We had already booked our venue, but inquired with the manager how much it would be to rent out the restaurant. At that time, they told us it would be $18,000 in catering costs to rent the whole restaurant out for a summer evening. Not wholly unreasonable, I thought.

It wasn’t until we’d been back to Windows several more times before we noticed there is a special events room to hold an event. The event area is good for a small to medium sized wedding, holding up to 150 people. The room has the same floor to ceiling windows the rest of the restaurant has. It’s in the back of the restaurant, so there’s pretty much no chance of someone wandering into the room by mistake. Plus, chances are since you’re not asking to use the whole restaurant, it will be much cheaper than renting the whole place! My guess is that the catering costs end up being fairly reasonable, especially for being in Los Angeles.

For those who are looking for an intimate rehearsal dinner spot, Windows has another smaller room that’s enclosed in glass. That room holds approximately 14 people. It’s located more towards the interior of the dining tables, but has a door to shut you off (at least audibly) from the rest of the diners.

My 30th birthday is coming up so maybe I’ll have my birthday dinner there~ thanks for the recommendation. Plus, my girlfriend is getting married in May ‘08 and she has been looking for a venue that could accommodate 200 guest. Windows seems like a intimate location~ ;o)

That looks so great! I love the view and the fact that it’s a little lesser known. My FI and I will definitely have to check it out. What’s the average price for a meal there?
