Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!

Dresses For The Little One

February 23rd, 2007 @ 2:06 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

With a little more than 8 months until the wedding, I don’t know if it’s too soon to flower girl shop - I really don’t think so! Anyway, here are the ideas I’m considering:

There are these by Strasburg Children, currently having a sale on dresses:

This one is ivory organza (seen in Brides Feb/March 2007). $115

This one is ecru silk organza, possibly paired with a sash. $120

Chiffon and crystal satin, found at bestbridalprices.com and made by Jordan Bridesmaids. $136

This one is found at the same place, is also made by Jordan and is crystal satin. $111

I love them all, and wish flower girl dresses weren’t so costly! It’s for a freakin’ four year old! Anyway, I plan on buying a totally cute cardigan she can wear over the dress, and she will have a wreath of reddish/rust colored roses.

When/Where did you buy your flower girl dress(es)?

We buying our dresses off ebay. There will be four flower girls and, while their mom’s were fine with spending $100 on each dress, I couldn’t handle it. I found adorable blue dresses for $24.99 + $15 for shipping. With a little sweather they’ll be perfect.

Oh, and my wedding is May 5th and I’m buying the dresses next week. I’d aim for 4-6 months out as I was cutting it close.

I’d be careful about buying children’s clothes too soon. Children grow like weeds and can easily change sizes in as little as 6 months. If you got something this early I’d make sure it was something cheap like those cute dresses from Target that were posted the other day that way if they outgrew it it wouldn’t be much of a loss. A good idea also is to wait until after Easter…all those flouncy pretty dresses will be on sale!!!

i didn’t have a flowergirl until the week of the wedding when mr bee’s niece said she wanted to do it. her mom just bought an inexpensive dress off the rack at a dept store, and she was as cute as a button. :)

I have 4 flower girls. I really didn’t want to spend a ton on their dresses, so I went a bit unconventional. Two of the dresses (for my two 4 year old girls) I bought at Burlington Coat Factory. The dresses are super cute, and only cost $20 each. For the older two (6yr olds) I found dresses on sale at the Jessica McClintock outlet in SF for $17.

Got mine from Pegeen.com. I ordered back in November because their prices were going up, but they aren’t cutting the fabric until March. I have to call in with my FG’s measurements by March 15.

If you like Strasburg Children’s dresses, you may be able to find them at an outlet. I know there’s a Strasburg outlet near my parents’ house in Pennsylvania, and I’m sure there are more elsewhere in the country.

My cousin is getting her flower girl dresses at Target. With all the Easter dresses coming out now, any department store will have tons of options.

Hey guys, thanks for all the suggestions- I’m pretty sure there is a Strasburg outlet near Santa Barbara- I should take a drive over there.

As for all the easter dresses, will they have ivory? A lot of the ones I see are yellows and pinks, baby blues and greens… I’d like ivory with a gold/ivory sash, I guess I’ll keep my eyes out!

awww makes me wish I had a flower girl, I can imagine taking youngsters shopping would be a blast, they are always so adorable. I think if you really keep your eye out you will be able to find ivory, I remember having an ivory easter dress when I was younger. Good Luck!!

Miss Kiwi - you should be able to find an ivory dress, and then you can buy satin ribbon to make the sash.

You can check amazon.com too. :)

ebay. 15.00 plus another 15 in shipping and she was adorable! My dress was ivory, but didn’t have a colored sash. You could probably add one if necessary and the beaded flower thing was just safety pinned on. AND it was easy to alter, because we got it a bit too big.

since you’re from LA…i’d recommend checking out the LA Fashion District…that’s where i got my flower girl dress..it was one of the cutest dresses i’ve ever seen and it was less than $40…LA Fashion District had tons of stores with cute little dresses!

I’m also getting my dresses from Pegeen–I like the way their styles are real little girl dresses, they’re not inappropriately mature bridesmaid’s dresses in child sizes. Putting spaghetti straps on a strapless adult design does not make it appropriate for a child. My flowergirl is wearing a “buttercream” (pale yellow) dress with a navy sash, while my youngest bridesmaid is wearing the same dress in navy with a buttercream sash. My older bridesmaids (still young) and my MOH (my older sister) are all wearing navy, the girls with pale yellow accents. I went with Pegeen because their dresses are beautiful, but also because my youngest bridesmaid is hard to fit, being both chunky and very tall for her age, and they have a custom sizing option. They seem like a great company!

There’s a Strasburg outlet in the Tanger Outlet Mall in Riverhead, Long Island, on the way out to the Hamptons. A nice day trip from NYC. And there’s plenty of other places to spend your wedding-related money there too, including a Pottery Barn outlet and a JCrew outlet that often has a great selection of their past-season dresses at rock-bottom prices.

We bought our FG dress from a consignment shop. My mother & FMIL (who both sew) said that if my FG grew too fast, we can just remove the sleeves and make it sleeveless. As, this should be the only area that gets tight.

But, I’d check these two sites:
