The Pitfalls of Trying To Be Beautiful

What? There are drawbacks to being smokin’ hot? I know. It was news to me as well. On my never ending quest to look drop dead gorgeous on my wedding day, I’ve run into a few problems.

Problem #1: Lash Extensions

I was so psyched to try these out. I felt gorgeous with them on. Very glamorous. But they hurt. When I would take a shower and wash my face, the water hitting them was excruciating. At least, that was my experience. I also had a hell of a time taking them off. That hurt too. Sometimes they would start to become unglued a bit and poke me in the eye. Oh yeah. It’s all fun and games until somebody loses an eye! For the big day, I will probably just wear a pair from MAC that can be taken off that night.

Problem #2: Hair Extensions

I got my extensions around Valentines day. I ripped them out of my head 2 days ago. They were majorally sagging and they were supposed to last at least 2 weeks. They didn’t. Actually, after the first time I washed them, one section came out. You have to be very careful with them. With that said, I did go the cheap route of having them just glued in, as opposed to sewn in. Now, after washing my hair repeatedly, I still have glue remnants on my scalp. I can’t seem to get them out, short of cutting my hair. Despite these problems, I’m definitely going to have them done again. I actually despise my real hair now. Such a disappointment to not look like that on a day to day basis! :(

Just a few words of warning to those of you who are considering the above treatments. :)

i have a consult today to get extensions but i’m getting the hair loc system which is supposedly the best out there. comes with a matching price tag, but still better than ending up with glue in your hair right? maybe look into hair locs?

Can you go with temporary hair pieces that clip into your hair to add fullness to your hairstyle? I’ll prolly do that…

I am considering looking vaguely like the woman my fiance fell in love with. He realizes there is a limit to my beauty, that it rarely extends past midnight or before 8 a.m., and that on our wedding day I will be keeping it real.

my man did put the kibosh on the fake lashes. in his words, “you’ll look like a clown.” le sigh. lucky for him, i didn’t have enough time to put them on, so it wasn’t an issue, but i had them. oh yes, i had them.

Sorry to hear about your experiences Miss Strawberry. I too had the eye lash extensions done in the past. Like you, I wasn’t happy with the eye lash extensions. I didn’t need them but I just want them to be fuller, however it hurts when you wash your face and I had to retouched them a few times. I’m glad you tried them on before your big day =) You want to be as comfortable as possible.

As for the hair extensions, you can use baby oil to remove the glue. Hair extensions are only temporary b/c your hair will thin out and your roots will become pretty weak. But I love how it looked on you! Let me know if you have any questions b/c I do hair extensions on the side. Good luck!

What kind of eyelash extensions did you have done? Because I was thinking of taking a workshop for a specific brand but if they are painful then I’ll skip that.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with eyelash extensions. I have heard this many times before and can tell you exactly why you had this pain. The technician was not experienced and did not properly isolate your natural lashes. Instead of gluing one individual natural lash to one extension, they glued more than one of your natural lashes to each extension.

Natural lashes grow at different rates just like the hair on your head so it’s crucial they be properly isolated and only one adhered to the extension. Otherwise, one natural lash can grow out faster than another and start to pull out any other natural lash that it is stuck to with it. The sensation feels like needles pricking your eyelids.

It’s very important to go to a trained professional from a reputable company and make sure you see their certificate. Hope this helps explain.
