Unusual Wedding Venues

Hotel ballrooms not for you? If the standard wedding venue isn’t your thing, consider some of the following for your upcoming nuptials:

A barn!

The Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle has a lot of separate sites to consider–like a Rose Garden, a Butterfly Garden, a Thai and African Village, or right next to the Jaguars!

I love thinking of the decorating possibilities with these non-traditional venues. The barn thing is fabulous…not for FI’s allergies but would look spectacular (I love NetterB’s wedding, too). :-)

I also love the ferry/boat idea. Jon&Katie’s wedding (knot bio) was a fun boat wedding. :-)

We are having our reception in a barn. The dinner portion will be in a tent and the dancing/bar will be in the actual barn. I am so excited about it!

We are getting hitched at the San Diego Wild Animal Park… basically a zoo, but with wide open spaces for the animals! FI wanted a non-traditional venue! I’m glad… I think it fits us more than a typical ballroom type place.

After Grey’s Anatomy these past few weeks, I don’t think I’ll be getting married on a ferry, but it’s such a cute idea!

We’re getting married in a renovated railway depot :) Like a barn, it’s another one of those things you often find in small towns that’s been repurposed for events!

I would have loved to have an unusual venue, but on Long Island, they tend to be pricey, and we’re on a strict budget. We do have a rather new aquarium here, one that was designed with the idea that it would be used for weddings and corporate events, but it’s not cheap. I never thought I’d end up having my wedding in a country club ballroom, but it was the nicest and most affordable option, oddly enough. And I guess for us it IS an unusual venue. ;)

NetterB had a beautiful wedding. Just lovely. I’m sure her guests will never forget it.

One of my bms attended a college formal at the Aquarium. She said it was definitely interesting, but it smelled fishy the whole time… I would imagine a barn might smell as well. Just something to consider and check out in person.

I’m with pencils. I live in a quasi-rural area, and thought finding a nice barn and oak tree would be easy as pie, but any of the very far-and-few-between spaces like that knew they were hot stuff and charged like it too. One of the appeals of the barn is the notion that its . . . a barn: cheap, not pretentious, homey, etc. Except that doesn’t seem to be the way it is. Anyone out there have any luck finding and using a private barn (of someone not related to you) that isn’t typically used for weddings? Something thats not a ‘venue’ in the traditional sense of the word? Or is that a crazy idea?

This could be a great addition to the mobile application we created for the Woodland Park Zoo. The App already contains the ability to find events and schedules, with a map from your current location. Adding a wedding would be treated like another event on the schedule (except really, really special)! Thanks for the idea.

The barn decoration looks nice. Its a mixture of old country and modern one but the outcome still is dashing.

The photo’s shown above was so nice location of the wedding. Some was so unique place and some is retro environment but so cool. I didn’t saw a wedding in the ferry yet. I think that was romantic one marring in the ferry.

Something that’s not a ‘venue’ in the traditional sense of the word. The dinner portion will be in a tent and the dancing/bar will be in the actual barn. That was a great venue to held a wedding. Thank you for the photo’s.
