Middle Earth Weddings

February 26th, 2007 @ 1:26 pm by Mrs. Blueberry

As highly personalized weddings are becoming more popular, so are theme weddings–they allow a couple to exhibit their unique interest in a certain movie, culture, team or event. And the people at Middle Earth Weddings have figured out nearly every aspect of the Lord of the Rings wedding of your dreams (if that’s what you dream about, of course smiley401)!

Their site features a directory for everything from elfin cakes to the wedding hairstyle a hobbit might have–such a treasure trove of information!

The photos section shows some real-life Middle Earth weddings, and I must admit I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw. I loved the subtle touches that people incorporated–instead of having a Gandalf look-alike officiate and forcing guests to show up in cloaks, the couples’ interest in LotR was manifested in many less overt ways.

If Arwen and Aragorn had a wedding cake, don’t you think it would have looked like this?:

Or table names that correspond to ME geography:

I’m kind of hesitant to put this up in fear that Mr. Bluebery will decide we need to rethink our wedding’s decor (did I mention he’s a LotR fan in addition to being a Star Wars fan?). But I think it’s worth the risk, to show you all some cool ideas. smiley1

Even if an all-out Middle Earth wedding isn’t quite your thing, I really respect that these couples didn’t mind bucking (or shifting) tradition in order to show their own interests!

Well, I have yet to even watch LotR OR Star Wars…I know, I am going to cinema hell. Anyway, the best I could muster is to plan to be introduced/enter as husband and wife to the Imperial March from Star Wars. It’s all for FI and I hope he likes it!

i actually think that the designs from the elves’ world is pretty gorgeous and not tacky or nerdy at all….and i’m pretty far from a sci-fi or fantasy lover.

I am a graphic artist & calligrapher who has designed for several LOTR weddings. I agree with Lisa’s comments: most of the visual themes in the LOTR movies we based in Celtic Art or Art Nouveau style, both of which are very lovely, tasteful, & appropriate for wedding themes. If you are interested, you can see my LOTR designs on my website: http://www.calligraphicstudio.com (or see my invitations design page: http://www.calligraphicstudio.com/calligra.htm)
