Engagement Conundrum

February 28th, 2007 @ 10:11 pm by Mrs. Blueberry

Tomorrow or Friday is round 2 of our engagement photos. A friend of mine up here (the mom of two of my preschoolers) has offered to take the photos in her studio as a favor to me (I’m “paying” her with free babysitting). So now I have an outfit conundrum.

You guys were super right that the outfit I wore in our last photo session was not at all right, so now I’m enlisting your opinion for these photos.

Mr. Blueberry will be wearing a dark brownish green sweater that’s got a zipper near the neck (sorry no picture; my camera crapped out on me right after I took the photos below). I’m debating among these four options:

Please vote!

A (my favorite!):
z777947

B (too matchy-matchy with Mr. Blueberry? Even if the colors are slightly different?):
z777948

C (my favorite sweater ever) (oh yeah and ignore my dumb expression here):
z777949

D (Imagine it in medium brown!!!):
z777988

I’d probably wear different jeans if I go with “C”, but prob. the jeans I have on with “A” or “B”.

Votes? Pwetty Pwease?

I like A the best. I think you might be right in that B might be too matchy (then you’d be back to looking like siblings). And I think C and D cover too much up! Plus I think the coral of A will complement your hair and reflect on your skin to make it pinker (read: less “pasty”)

A is the best color — it will POP in the pics. B and D will fade into the background and the color will be drianed from your complexion. C is a nice color but i agree that it’s too covered up.

Abs. not to C. It’s fine, but not picture pretty, if you know what I mean. I like A the best. Try to look less pose-y and more natural in these, I think. Of course, just an opinion.

I’m not sure how the bright reddish color will look with the brownish green sweater, but I like it the best on you. I think Mrs. Bee is right, I’m a red head and green looks great on me. I think you should try green!!!

a! it’ll add color to your photos and most likely won’t wash you out. and it’ll definitely stick out from whatever background you’ll have

Speaking as a photographer, I picked D, simply because your photos should be focused on your faces not your clothes! Personally, I would think such a bright color (it IS a fun color and I’m sure looks beautiful on you!) would detract from your expressions more than anything. I always tell couples that the focus is on their faces, not their clothes!

But wear whatever will make you feel good and comfortable in - thats’ more important than anything! :D

D all the way. Brown will look rich with your skin and hair color plus it won’t stand out so much, it’ll direct the eye to your happy faces. Second choice hmm.. B but since you said it is close to Mr B’s outfit.. eh matchy might be too much.

I like D. The brown color will make your eyes and red hair pop. I have fair skin too and a warm brown always looks great.

I voted for A. While I love the color of C and am also a fan of turtleneck sweaters, I’d advise against either C or D, because a high neckline will distract from your face. It’s not so much that you will be too “covered up” as others have said (a crewneck leaves you just as covered and would look fine), it’s more the fact that a turtleneck divides your body in half from above the neck and below the neck, and it will reflect in pictures as though you have a floating head.

What about a white top for your e-pics? I wore white in my e-pics (FI wore a blue button down and brown blazer) and I’ve gotten so many compliments on how wearing white evokes a “bridal” tone in the photos. Just a thought! :)

I love A, I think the v-neck and the color will be very complimentary! I would avoid a turtleneck for the e-pics. Also, I think B isn’t flattering to your bustline.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! I think I will go with A :-) But maybe bring D along too and do a few pics in it.

Stephanie–I had the same thought! In our last pics I wore a white cotton sleeveless shirt with some beading around the neckline—it was really adorable in person, but in photos it made me look soooo washed out (if you click on the link in the words “last photo session” above you can see what I mean).

I really like the silouette of the first one, great shape on you. It’s very flattering. I would have to see your fi’s shirt to see the color combo, but I think it’s definitely my favorite!

I can’t believe A is winning! Brownish green sweater with a dark pink shirt???? No no no! Go with B (even though it’s loosing) you won’t look matchy-matchy, just coordinated. Or do the brown or ivory option. Stay away from turtle necks - an open neckline is much more flattering.

I love A, good color and you’ll like having bright colors in your pitures. It will aslo make a nice contract to your fiance’s shirt if you do any in B&W.

Please don’t wear a turtle neck. You’ll have floating head syndrome especially if you do any B&Ws. I think the turtle neck would also make you look younger and more like siblings.

with your gorgeous hair I’m loving the idea of D in brown with a pair of blue jeans (hopefully a bright blue). sorry the first photo-session was a bust! consider it a practice round. put mr. blueberry in a blue or green top to really complete the look. :) (he is, afterall, your best accessory)

turtlenecks and the henleys aren’t very feminine, but if that’s how you are comfortable, then go for it. If you are getting any B&Ws, don’t wear read, it will come out a funny grey.

I too am gettting married soon and have gone through all of the same worries. I think a solid black or white is the most flattering for engagement photos. Because you have red hair you should go with black. You DON’T need to have a color. That is the worst mistake girls make with engagement photos. Also, your sweaters should be a tad longer. Look for ones that are still slim on your body but atleast four inches past the top of your jeans.

p.s. you are adorable and will look great in anything=)
