Monochromatic Table Names

February 28th, 2007 @ 9:35 am by Mrs. Hibiscus

For our table names, we’re using pictures of us at all the special places we’ve been to. I’m cropping the pictures into squares and typing the name of the place on the picture. As an added bonus, I’m turning the pictures into our wedding colors. A couple of people have asked me how to get your picture monochromatic using Photoshop. So here’s the 4-1-1. (Note: This isn’t actually my wedding color but it was when I made it. Another sample in my actual wedding color is at the very end of the post)

Well, first off, you need Photoshop. :) With the picture open in Photoshop you click on IMAGE, then MODE, and then GRAYSCALE (it may say duotone, tritone or quadtone depending on what it’s set at). Then just double click whatever color or two colors you want. If you want to mix more than one color, click on duotone, tritone or quadtone. Hope that helps! Drop me a line if you need more help.

just remember to save a copy of the file before making changes… you dont want your only copy to be forever in pink or blue. :)

Also VERY easy to get the monoochromaic pics in Shutterfly or Snapfish, etc., if you use an online photo hosting site. :-)

Do you have Photoshop Elements, or regular Photoshop (6, 7, CS or CS2)?

The reason I ask, is because on regular Photoshop you don’t have the option to colorize the picture straight from the Grayscale option. You have to go and do another action after turning it into grayscale. (At least I haven’t been able to figure out how it was done)

On regular photoshop there are a few ways to turn an image to b/w, which will give a slightly different look.

I made a quick tutorial, on different options if you would like to look at it.

Hope it helps

Oh, forgot to say. If you are having the images printed at a printers instead of an inkjet, you should make the image CMYK, instead of RGB. You are more likely to get the colors you wanted accuratly. Cheers

Love the idea! In fact, we are thinking of doing the same thing, but didn’t think about cropping them and making them square. What are the measurements of your photos you used? We printed 5×7’s but don’t think they’re big enough. thanks!
