Mr. Blueberry and I have had a rather long engagement. We got engaged on Sept. 10, 2005 (actually, the wee hours of the morning of the 11th), but our wedding isn’t until May 2007–almost 2 years from the time we first got engaged!
This long engagement means that it feels like we’ve been engaged for for-frikkin-ever! I’ve been calling Mr. Blueberry “my fiance” longer than I called him “my boyfriend,” as we’ve now spent the bulk of our relationship engaged.
I wonder if this is unusual at all, and I always love to see what our lovely readers have to say, so I think I must pose a poll!
Two of my very good friends got engaged in the past two weeks, and I couldn’t be happier for them!
When one of the grooms-to-be emailed me asking for suggestions on where to buy the ring, I was ecstatic and literally squealed with glee! I talked to the bride-to-be the day before he proposed, so I knew that she was completely oblivious. Don’t you just love being in on a great surprise? I think I get more excited about my friends’ engagements than I did about my own!
Their beautiful rings…

I written several posts about food lately, but I can’t help it! I’ve been doing a great job with staying fit and eating healthy… I think looking at pics of food online has satisfied my cravings for treats.
I came across Rolling Pin Productions this morning, and they have the cutest cookies.

How lovely is your frosting~ Lalala~ I have finally decided to go with a cupcake tree instead of a wedding cake. I really wanted to do these super-yummo-best-anythingcloseto-muffins-cupcakes-in-the-world peach muffins especially offered by Folks Southern Kitchen Restaurant (I called and they offered to cater them for the wedding), but in the end I decided against them because the cupcake tree would look to plain. (You just can’t add frosting to those muffins!)
So yeah, I will be getting cupcakes from Publix bakery- a *GASP* super market. ^_^ They offer cupcakes at an AMAZING price! So far my favorite inspiration has come from an Austrailian company called A Piece of Cake. Granted, Publix probably can’t duplicate the quality of those cupcakes, but at least I have something to work with.
This one’s my fav:

I finally gave in and ordered those cute Vera Wang Love Knots cake serving set and toasting flutes. After much internet research and hours of pouring over ebay looking for a deal - I found a pretty good one.

I remember reading a previous open question about hairstyles for brides who have curly hair. I found these beautiful ones per the Curly Hair Bio

As a companion to my dress cost poll and ring cost poll, I thought it was time to talk about veil prices!
The real inspiration for this post was my first visit with my dress (not a “fitting” because Kleinfeld’s refuses to schedule them more than 8 weeks before the wedding), where I tried on my super cheap veil from weddingveil.com and discovered that a) it was wayyy the wrong color with my dress, b) it was wayyy the wrong length with my dress, and c) the material, while decent looking by itself, just didn’t manage to hold its own next to my super pretty gorgeous fabulous gown. Sigh. So back to the drawing board on veils I go.
My mom asked them to bring me a few similar style veils to try on, and I fell in looooove with one for the absolutely ridiculous price of $1,600. GAH. It’s just a little piece of fabric, people! She brought us several others that weren’t much cheaper and managed to go down on the price by several hundred dollars for the first one (since I didn’t want it as long as the sample), but I am still so so so discouraged in my veil search. I don’t think there’s aaaany way I can justify over $1,000 on a veil!
So now, even though I know it will have the exact opposite effect of what I am deep down hoping, let’s see how much everyone else is paying for their veils!
If you’re planning on having an “Out of Town” gift bag, how are you getting it to your guests?
My original plan was to contact all of the RSVP’d guests to find out where they are staying, and then spend a day delivering the bags all around town. Sure it’s a bit of trouble, but it’s the least I could do to thank everyone for coming out. A lot of our guests are clustered in houses they’ve rented for the week, the hotel where our reception is held, and other hotels that are in the downtown area… so I’ll definitely have to make more than a few stops.
But then I started to wonder about how I would get in contact with everyone… and if hotels will charge me to hold/deliver the bags… and now I’m going to the hive to get the best suggestions out there. Please share any tips you have that would make the gifting an easier process for the hosts!
After a pre-wedding photo session (yep, it was way too rushed and we did not have nearly enough time…I haven’t yet talked to any brides who were actually ready on time, so if you are out there, kudos to you…I couldn’t manage it), we went down to the Ladies Locker Room for the Ketubah signing.
I think Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Lopez both looked stunning at last night’s Oscar ceremony - their hair, makeup and dress were all perfect! Check out more of Hollywood’s loveliest leading ladies below for wedding hair and makeup inspiration.

Somewhat along the lines of Miss Blueberry’s LoTR post, I thought I’d blog about our toasting flutes. While we are not a LoTR couple, we (mostly me) are fans of Renaissance Faires. My mother and aunt have been going since I was a child, spending the weekend there for food, fun, and shopping. Only in recent years have Mr. Kiwi and I joined them- even though he only goes for the food.
My aunt has made a tradition in our family - those who get married get a pair of toasting flutes from the Renaissance Faire. Now, before this brings to mind garish goblets with dragons and elves (yes, there are those, too), I’m hoping to get some tasteful ones.
No matter how hard I’ve tried to finagle my aunt into not getting them, she insisted. I already have a pair of lovely gold and deep red goblets from my cousin Karen (which I will still be using btw).
So, I set about finding a pair of glasses that wouldn’t offend my gentle eyes. The glasses will be coming from The Fellowship Foundry, but at the faire itself, not online. These were found on their website:
I’m sure by now, most people have seen products from Anne Taintor. Her quirky, contemporary humor and retro graphics are slapped on everything from magnets to t-shirts. They even have these cute invitations that would be perfect for a bridal shower.

Luggage forwarding is a pretty dreamy travel indulgence. Here’s how it works: You call up one of any number of luggage forwarding services, they come directly to your house, pick up all your crap, and then a few days later it’s waiting for you (usually all stacked neatly in a pile) wherever you are going. No shlepping any heavy bags…no long lines at those annoying luggage carousels…you just get on the plane, jet off to your honeymoon destination and, voila…your luggage is waiting for you in your room.
Since you are basically shipping your luggage, prices vary greatly depending on where you are going, how many bags you have and how much each bag weighs. International destinations are, of course, more than domestic ones.
