We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!

Honeymoon on Hold

March 1st, 2007 @ 8:28 am by Mrs. Kiwi

Yes, our trip to Costa Rica is on hold. And I’m okay with that! Why, you ask? Well, two days after the wedding (my birthday, actually) we’re flying to Las Vegas for two nights and three days. I’m actually very excited about Vegas! So we’re already taking the minimoon, but with the days off before the wedding too, I’m using almost half my vacation time.

Another reason our honeymoon is on hold is, Mr. Kiwi works summer beach volleyball tournaments, and will be going to Long Island this summer. I’ve always wanted to go, especially now that I know there are a bunch of Bees out there to meet! He said that if I want, I can take a trip out there to meet him. And… that will take the rest of my vacation days!

So, we’ve decided to move the honeymoon back two months or more, maybe January at the earliest. He thinks he can use the honeymoon, or lack thereof, as leverage to maybe get more vacation time next year. Still, I really like having two trips - one to Vegas and the other to New York - as a type of honeymoon.

Are you doing anything out of the ordinary for your honeymoon?

We took a minimoon right after the wedding in September, then saved up vacation time and we’re taking a 7-night cruise in May. We’re so glad that we chose to do it that way, and we can’t wait to go one our cruise now!

We’re hoping to book our honeymoon today–should have done it already, but don’t get me started (the groom is taking care of it…) Anyway, ours won’t be out of the ordinary: most likely Sandals in St Lucia, a lovely honeymoon, but a popular one. However, we also want to go to Europe for a second honeymoon in the fall or next spring, it’s just that right after the wedding we want to go somewhere warm and relaxing and not *have* to do anything, not have a schedule, where we can concentrate on each other, not on seeing the sights.

BTW, Miss Kiwi, I’m a native Long Islander and still live here. It’s a wonderful place, we’re hoping to buy a house in our current neighborhood (we rent) after the wedding. If you need any suggestions for things to see, let me know!

We stayed with a friend for our honeymoon. Okay, not the most romantic way of doing things, but we were able to stay in London for two weeks that way. :)

We’re also doing a mini-moon. We will get married 1st of September and was heading for Tokyo, but then I read there’s usually bad weather in September over tehre. We’re planning of doing a minimoon here in Sweden somewhere and then going to Tokyo in the end och October.

Have any of you ever been to Japan or Tokyo and can advise about weather?

We’re doing a 10-day minimoon in Yellowstone right after the wedding, and a 25-day honeymoon in Spain/Portugal in May 2008.

My FH and I spent 25 days in Japan in June 2005 — it’s technically the “rainy season” but we only experienced rain about three times during our entire stay. I’m a big fan of traveling in the off- or shoulder-season - fewer tourist crowds (especially in places like Kyoto) and better prices.

We’re going traipsing around Japan for a month! Though, reading the comments here, that’s not original at all!

Well done on going to Portugal, Paula, you’ll love it! (just make sure to go to Lisbon!)
