DIY Unity Candles–Done!

March 5th, 2007 @ 5:00 pm by Mrs. Blueberry

Adding unity candles to our ceremony was sort of a last minute decision–our officiant told us about how other couples have incorporated a unity ceremony into a secular wedding, so that the candles just signify the joining of two individuals to create one family. We really liked the symbolism of that.

So yesterday at Michael’s I found a large pillar candle on sale for $3.50, and two tapers for $0.79 each. My mom already had some stick-on “jewels” on hand, so I used those.

The stick-ons:

I then cut apart and stuck on the “jewels” in a scattered pattern around each of the candles. It was *really* easy.

Finished product:

Total: <$7.00. Compare that to $32.50.

Great job!!! Looks even better than the $33 ones.

Ms Blueberry, do you mind sharing where you got the taper candleholders? Thanks!

Luzl–sure! I got them at a thrift store :-D They were $1.00 apiece.

Sorry I can’t be more help than that, though. :-/

I was thinking about doing the same thing. I was a little scared that the stick-on jewels would not stay though. I was going to glue them on somehow myself. Did they stay pretty well for you?

Oh.. hint, hint.. when doing this, make sure you get candles that have a long burning time. The cheaper candles burn fast. The tapers may burn down before the ceremony is over!!

I did my own and was able to personalize them with our last name initial, and I truly loved them more than any I could have bought! Yours look beautiful, and it’s such a great save!

i think you could also add some ribbon or silk flowers, especially to the vase that’s holding the unity candle. :) if not, its pretty as is already. good job!
