Flavors In Progress

March 5th, 2007 @ 12:31 pm by Mrs. Plum

Being overly ambitious and overly confident in my DIY abilities (and too cheap to shell out $10+ each to buy nice favors), I decided to make candles for our guests as wedding favors.

After I’m done, I am going to package them in clear boxes with a personalized ribbon that says “Love is Sweet! Thuy & Eddy”

Cheesy, I know, but I still like it! laughin03

They also have a “buttercream” fragrance and others have “wedding cake” fragrance - yummy!

These are my first attempts - not too bad, right?

I’m trying to do different variations of our color theme….(lol - I used my NARS vitamin serum bottle to hold up the cupcake…good stuff, btw!)

I think the “chocolate” ones really show off the frosting detail!

I’ve only made about 6 so far….400-something odd to go…

I love them! Don’t worry about how they look either - the guests will love them even more because they’re all unique and handmade by you! I don’t know if it’s proper to be all “yeah I made them,” but maybe your bridesmaids could get people talking about how crafty you are. When it comes to weddings, people are well aware of the costs involved, and would be more impressed by something like that than how much money you have to spend on useless things.

Those turned out great! You’re so talented. I initially wanted to have Diptyque candles as my favors, but my mom was against the idea saying that Japanese people don’t use candles so they’d just throw it out. :-( So I opted for macnut shortbread cookie favors instead. Oh well..

I think they look great! I also think that you’ll be happy that you gave your guests something you made yourself :) Even if no one knows you made them, I think that you’ll still feel proud and your efforts will be worth it. Maybe if you want people to know you could put a little “handmade for you by the bride” tag attached somewhere?

they look fantastic! i’d recommend making 1 favor per family/couple. i don’t know if you’re expecting 400+ families/couples but it’ll save your sanity. also, not every single guest will take a favor. you may be swimming in cupcake candles afterwards!

They’re sooooo cute!!! I’m currently working on making my own TY cards (I’m on break right now! hehe) and I’m starting to wonder why I need to do 240 of them…so I could see how 400 candles could be really overwheling! But if you’ve got the patience and energy, I think it’s definitely a great DIY to take on :-)

Will you be posting instructions?

Cute idea.

Although — They could use a “finishing touch” like a ribbon wrapped around the base to resemble the paper wrapper, or maybe “sprinke” decorations in your wedding colors on the top of the “frosting”?

Actually, some of the photos make them look really good, and others don’t. I think they are really a nice idea, because I always like candles around the house.
