You’ve been invited to a wedding for a couple who lives in NYC. They already have everything they could ever want… or more than they can fit into their tiny apartment.
or… You have a bridesmaid or groomsman who hails from “The City.” They’re very particular/ spoiled/ hard to please. (Blame it on living in a shopper’s paradise.)
What do you get them?? .. Here are some ideas!
TICKETS TO A MUSICAL
I just saw “In The Heights” this past weekend with Mr. Ant and we both loooved it! It’s a high-energy musical with a rich score that’s packed with salsa, merengue, and hiphop elements.

It just opened off-Broadway, but in my opinion (and I’ve seen over 20 musicals), it’s right up there with the best Broadway hits. (PS. “In The Heights” was produced by the same people who brought you Rent and Avenue Q.)

Full disclosure: I’m actually very good friends with Lin’s real life girlfriend and I’ve hung out with him in the Dominican Republic before. But, if you won’t take my word for it, then read the glowing reviews: here, here, and here.

AT-HOME COOKING CLASSES
Some friends got us a series of private cooking classes from Home Cooking NY as a wedding gift.

Classes are approx. 2 1/2 hours each and are centered around the completion of a 4 course meal. The service is very understanding of New Yorkers’ needs: scheduling is flexible (after work and weekend classes are available), the chefs travel to your home (mainly Manhattan, Brooklyn, or Queens), and they can accomodate almost any size kitchen.
There are many different menus to learn. Personally, we adore Indian food, so we’re especially looking forward to that particular session!
Indian
Mango or Saffron Lassi
Homemade Samosas
Chicken Tikka Masala
OR Saag Paneer (Spinach with
Fresh Cheese)
Homemade Rotis, Parathas, or Chapatis

CITY SHUFFLE DECKS
You can choose to gift either The Diner’s Deck, The Bar & Lounge Deck, or The Shopping Deck.. or all three decks! Each deck is a handy little guide to 52 one-of-a-kind destinations specially recommended by their team of foodies, barhoppers, and shoppers.

Each card features an informative description of a great restaurant, bar, or boutique. Each card is also a $10 gift certificate at the establishment it recommends (valid within the calendar year)!
I received the Diner’s Deck last year as a Christmas present and discovered lots of wonderful restaurant gems. It’s a present that lasts all year!

Any other ideas or suggestions for gifts that New Yorkers would enjoy?
While I really LOVE all the ideas you have (and especially love all-things-related-to Avenue Q), we gave some NYC friends a Broadway gift certificate for their wedding. That way they could check out any show they wanted, since we weren’t sure what they had already seen. Broadway.com sells them, but I’m sure you can find other websites that has them too. They were a big hit!
I think you’re definitely on the right track of giving them an ‘experience’ instead of ’stuff.’ I always appreciate when people do that, considering my small condo size. Good luck deciding
