How To Attach A Drop Veil

March 5th, 2007 @ 10:30 am by Mrs. Lime

Upon Candi Merle’s suggestion, I dropped by this odd little shop called Daisy’s Accessories to find some straight pins to attach my drop veil to my head. In a small, silent store in a strip mall, a lady sells almost exclusively hair accoutrements. There seemed to be quite a few extensions of all colors, very affordable tiaras that don’t look half bad (although more fit for a quincenera), costume jewelry, everyday hair accessories for cheaper than Claire’s (and slightly better quality, too), and even scrunchies (yay 80s!)!

These were the simplest I could find ($1.99 each):

I’d have my hair person stick one in from each side of my head. However, I didn’t want to end up looking like this:

or this:

I wanted something simpler still. So then I consulted my good friend, Google. He showed me these:

from a shop in the UK.

However, I *knew* someone had to sell the pin part without the pearl on top. After switching a few keywords around, I found these available for import in bulk:

However, I only need two. Forget about bulk orders.

Fast forward to today. I was window shopping on Montana Ave. during my lunch, and stopped into #1 Beauty (I *think* that’s what it’s called, at least. By the way, it has an EXCELLENT selection of hair products, makeup, higher end candles, fragrances, Essie nail polish…you name it). I really wanted the straight ones to the right, but they only had the wavy, “wide” bobby pin types shown to the left. An employee dug them out of the most hidden corner for me. $1.99 for a package of 25.

Yes, you can get a clear comb attached even to drop veils. However, I want the option of wearing it shorter in back for the reception (with the blusher back as well). I highly doubt I’ll keep it on, but I like flexibility. Thus my hair pin journey. Yes, I’ve always been one to do her research, but this is getting to be a bit much, potato.

Great post! I too, want to wear a drop veil with very simple pins. I’ve never been a crown, tiara girl. I don’t like combs either.

I have been looking all over for silver tone wide pins like that. They sell the black ones everywhere, but I can’t find silver ones like the pearls are attached to.

Thanks for the suggestions, all. Yep, I have checked Target as they usually have more than my local drugstores (no Duane Reades out here :(…but we’ve got the others and then some).

WeeMo, I love the bear hats on kids, just not me. And I may still use rabbit ears to get TV, but I don’t want to be receiving signals on my wedding day, after all.

Laura, same here. I was looking for the straight silvertone ones. My hair is pretty dark, so I’m thinking black will work for me. The “brunette” and “blonde” ones at the beauty supply were not so hot, either, but will probably disappear anyway unless someone is looking *really* closely.
