Bachelor(ette) Weekends

March 6th, 2007 @ 5:00 pm by Mrs. Bluebell

My wonderful super fabulous best maid of honor ever has started scoping out options for my bachelorette party!!! So far the front runner is spending a weekend at the North Carolina beach!

beach

I’m so excited since I’m from North Carolina so we used to take trips to the beach allll the time, but since I moved away about 7 years ago I haven’t been back to the beach (it’s about 3 hours away from where I’m from). So this is a nice symbolic bachelorette party representing “my past” (trips with friends, trips to the beach, North Carolina in general) vs. my married future. [No, I don't think that really matters but I enjoy random symbolism!]

Mr. Bluebell’s best man is also working on his bachelor party, and they are also most likely going to do some sort of weekend away. Which got me thinking…how many people are doing a bachelor(ette) weekend as opposed to a party? Are you and your girls traveling, or staying nearby? For me, at least half of my friends live in other states, so a ton of us were going to have to travel one way or the other. It just made more sense to pick a fun place and work from there, but I do feel a bit bad that people will have to shell out money for both travel and lodging. It will still be a lot cheaper than something like Vegas and there won’t be expensive restaurants and outings in the mix, so I feel like it will probably even out to some extent.

Regardless, you know how hard it is for me to end a post without a poll…..so……..

What is the general nature of your bachelorette party?

[And yes, I know this is pretty closely related to Miss Kiwi's post earlier, but I couldn't help blogging about my weekend and, you know, getting some statistics out of this!! :D]

Wrightsville Beach was our go-to standard in high school, so that’s the tentative plan for now! It’s just so close to the airport and a bunch of people will be flying so it seems mean to make them drive after that. :-)

I voted for night out + drinks and little-to-no debauchery, but I hope that I get even that. I would LOVE to have a relaxing weekend with the girls, but considering they are all so busy with work or children, and that they are spread out, I am lucky that I am even going to have a shower with all of them there. Fingers crossed that after the shower, some of us can at least go out for drinks…

I did also have a friend from work say we should get a couple girls together and go out for dinner/drinks in NYC, which is really sweet, because I don’t have many friends here in NJ. I think she felt bad for me when I told her I wouldn’t have a bachelorette weekend/party. ;)

My girlfriends took me out for some dinner & drinks. After opening a few risque gifts, they surprised me by taking me to see Naked Boys Singing….For some reason I thought there would be minimal nakedness. But the show title really says it all. The show was funny and entertaining - had a great time.

Between my gfs and I, our tradition for bachelorette party is always go on a girls’ trip together. Last Oct., we went to Miami, and this year, one is in Vegas, and another one is in LA. I know it’s a lot of $$, but go on girls’ trip together is something you get to do while u’re still single. Once you’re married, it’s harder to get everyone out together, because all that responsibilities and time issues.
