Finishing Up Favors

March 6th, 2007 @ 12:24 pm by Mrs. Blueberry

I blogged a few months ago about our favors and how we were looking forward to finishing them up. Well, now they were one of our first DIY projects finished here in town!

We’d already assembled the favors (several glow-in-the-dark stars, loosely wrapped in blue tissue and put in a clear favor box) back last summer; we just needed to print and cut the tags, and tie them to the favors with ribbon.

My mom had a very handy tag cutter, that was like a super-fancy, giant hole punch. We printed the tags two-sided (Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” on one side, and the message from Mr. Blueberry and me on the other) then used the tag cutter to make each one into a tag shape. Then Mr. Blueberry used a heart-shaped hole punch to make the hole for the ribbon to go through, and I spent two evenings tying them all on.

Here’s the tag cutter in action:

You can see just where you’re cutting out, through the little window. The trickiest part of the whole process was lining up the edges so that there was no white border on the painting side, and the text all still showed up on the message side.

Finished tag, painting side:

The silver ribbon came with the favor boxes, and in that regards it was really convenient–pre-cut ribbons in a length that was just long enough for a bow. But it also made the bow-making rather tricky. If you’re interested in the favor boxes, they’re about $30 for 50 and are available at Michael’s or here.

I’m glad to have one more DIY checked off my list!

Thank you! I now have my solution. I am going to put my tulip bulbs in boxes, then put a tag with the name and seating assignment on them. Now where do I get the tag cutter?

I was so inspired that I hightailed it to JoAnn where all paper craft products are 40% off this week. My new tag puncher was a mere $9.59. Thanks Miss Blueberry!
