About Beehive

Beehive

March 8th, 2007 @ 6:12 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  • e is looking for suggestions on a Manhattan hairstylist. What’s a reasonable price for a not-that-elaborate half up/half down do?
  • future mrs. j.o.b wants to know the name of the font MrsEP uses in her planning bio and where she might find it? She wants to use it on her invites.
  • h wants to know if anyone remembers the venue that one of the bees had a party at a couple weeks ago called Black Door or something similar. They allowed you to get a room in the back and order take out.
  • A wants to know if anyone is familiar with Reem Acra’s Rose line. It’s supposed to be a more affordable line, but she can’t find pictures or price ranges.
  • beyondperfect is looking for facials within the $100-$150 range in NYC. She’s visiting next weeek and would like to go to a place without too much attitude or hype.
  • Javi is looking for a single button white grooms suit made of linen or other beach appropriate material for her beach wedding. Any recommendations on where to look?
  • Ricci is looking for beautiful flower girl dress recommendations under $200 besides US Angels.

i bought my flowergirl dress from this vendor that was mentioned by someone on weddingbee:

http://www.everythingnicefinechildrensclothing.com/

the dress was less than $100, and their service was absolutely wonderful. i called to ask about sizing, and they were so responsive. there was only one dress left, so they put it on hold for me until i was ready to buy it. the dress that came was very good quality, exactly as advertised!

For Ricci,

I’m planning to buy my flowergirl dress from Eve & Ellie. They have a few styles just under $200 like style #414, 421, 422, 416, 415. They have a lot of color choices and will even try to match your colors if you send in a color swatch. They’ll even send you free color swatches of the materials that they normally have in stock.

I would also recommend Strasburg Children (http://www.strasburgchildren.com/flowgirdres1.html). They’re silk dupioni dresses are really pretty. Strasburgh Children also has outlet stores where you can get a good bargain sometimes.

Ricci,
I got my FG dresses at Burlington Coat Factory, actually. They were only $20. There’s a lot of dress options for little ones there, if you can stand to brave the madness that is Burlington. I also got a couple FG dresses from a Jessica McClintock outlet, if you have one near you. There are also some really cute dresses at Target. One of the bees posted about them a while back.

Maricris,
I’ve ordered a test bunch from 2groses.com, and I thought the quality was really good. My florist aunt said that their alstros (the flowers I’m planning to use) were actually better quality than those her wholesaler sells. Be prepared to eat it a bit on the shipping, though, since the flowers are shipped overnight with blue ice packs. I know I was shocked at the shipping charges.

I found my flowergirl dress at Macy’s. They have a huge selection.

I do have a question. I have big (10) and narrow (2A) feet… I have been searching for wedding shoes with little luck (Nordstrom, Zappos.com, etc.). I would also like avoid dyeable shoes. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi– I’m wondering if anyone has good photos or sites that show invitation maps? I’d like to try to gather a few ideas of more “artistic” versions.

Thanks!

We’re getting our flower girl dress and junior bridesmaid dress from Pegeen.com. They have lovely, traditional styles, and you can customize the dresses and the colors in a zillion ways. Sleeves, no sleeves, sashes, and they have every color and shade you can think of. They do charge for it, but they’re less than $200. And they do special fitting, which is a big plus for us!

I’ve got a question for the hive!

We’re going to be performing the traditional korean pae baek ceremony during our cocktail hour. How long do they typically last? Is it feasible to do this during our cocktail hour? Doing it at the end of the night really isn’t an option for our older family members.

Thanks!

beyondperfect — try Ohm Spa (www.ohmspa.com) they have fantastic facials, aren’t overly hyped and don’t give you attitude. The environment is also very serene, peaceful… zen-like =)

beyondperfect - i highly recommend ‘glow skin spa’. the space is small, but they are very down to earth, not hokey (no enya), informative, and very attentive. i truly feel like they care about your skin. ask for keri–she’s great!

A - I checked out Reem Acra dresses at their flagship store in NYC. I ended up picking another designer. But from what I remember, the prices ranged from 3-4,000 and up. The more elaborate the detailing, the more the cost went up. The dress that was in the lowest range, not sure if it was the rose line, was a bit too simple. It looked more like an evening gown. Hope that helps.

A-The Reem Rose Tulip dress i tried at Kleinfeld was 3000, and it was much simpler than her regular dresses (which I liked), but IMO, other designers make nicer dresses in this price range :)

I have a question for the hive - I’m looking for a wedding coordinator in the NYC area for day-of coordination and help booking our last two vendors. Any suggestions? I know some of our NY-based bees hired coordinators and liked them.

I have a question - I’m getting married in May and I had to make a switch with my bridesmaids after major drama. Anyways, they’re all wearing pink tea-length dresses of their choice. The problem is that it’s getting so close to the wedding date that we’re trying to find a dress for the last bridesmaid from a non-wedding site so that we don’t actually have to wait so long for it to come in. So far, she’s looked at Nordstrom’s, Ann Taylor. Any other suggestions?

Question - I need to find some bridesmaid dresses quick! Our wedding is the first weekend this May, any ideas on where to look in the orange county, ca area? I was hoping to find a place where i could get them off the rack….

Question #2 - Any recommendations for wedding vendors in the same area?

Dear beehive,

Are there other brides who have performed the Korean pae baek ceremony in Dallas, TX? If so, can I please get recommendations on where to go to rent the outfits and have them do the set up?

Thanks,
Leesuh

The best adhesive I’ve been using for my invitations is transfer tape (I purchased it at Sam Flax in Atlanta). Basically, it’s double-sided tape but it has a super strong hold and is really easy to use. You also don’t run into any of the problems that glue brings. I’ve used it for 3 different projects for my wedding- I don’t know what I would have done without it!

Leesuh, I’m from Phily, but I got my hanbok from Dallas b/c my parents live there. There’s a korea town in Dallas. In the strip mall where the huge korean grocery store is, there’s a korean blanket/hanbok store. They rent the paebaek other outfits, but I don’t think they rent out the hanbok you’re supposed to wear underneath. I know they rent the grooms outfit. They may do set up as well, but since my wedding is a destination wedding, we didn’t even ask. You can message me on my xanga and I can found out from my mom the actual address.

maricris - my sister got married 3 years ago in SF and her friend did all of her flower arrangements using costco flowers. i’ve also bought many bouquets from there. not only are they inexpensive but they are beautiful and last a long time - longer than a lot of florist bouquets i’ve gotten! my sister’s roses lasted for a couple of weeks. i’m sure the quality partially depends on your area, but you could probably check out your local costco to see their selections.

kimmarie,
paebaek usually lasts about 30-45 minutes, depending on how many relatives are there. my husband had his entire family - both mom and dad’s side there - so there were 8 groups to which we did the bowing. doing it during the cocktail reception seems fine, i’ve been to a wedding that did that, but they took exceptionally long and peopel were anxious to get to dinner and to see the bride and groom. if you can keep it to 30 minutes, i don’t think the guests would mind as much. hope it helps. paebaek is awesome - we used all of it to spend on the honeymoon - almost $1,500!
