Flowers From…

Albertsons?!

Yep, that’s right, and they’re beautiful, too!

Recently, I went to a San Jose bridal fair with my future mother-in-law, who works at the corporate level for Albertson’s/SaveMart’s floral department, and checked out all of the booths while she supervised her own. Coming back around full circle after a trip around the whole show to the grocery store chain’s table, I realized that not many people are aware that such places do provide wedding flower services. Even those few people who do know of grocery stores’ offerings might not realize the host of options and the level of quality they can provide. (Added bonus: they do cakes and cupcakes, too!)

While FMIL is working directly with her suppliers and floral designers for Mr. Plumeria’s and my wedding, anyone can stop by their local Albertson’s floral department and inquire about their wedding services. It may not be quite the place one might have imagined one would go to for wedding flowers, but it is a great lower-cost alternative to specialty floral shops, and I have become increasingly more aware of how much is possible from this seemingly unlikely source (lots!).

One of the floral ladies at the booth graciously offered me a small toss bouquet that was on display to keep — “To practice with,” she said with a smile, as she handed it to me. While I’m leaning more towards a monochromatic, simple bouquet of callas or tulips, I couldn’t help but enjoy the bright colors exuded by this one’s pretty blooms!

those look nice. one of my friend’s got her flowers from a florist working through safeway that looked really nice…plus she wrapped the stems with those oasis thingys and stuck them in a pvc pipe that made them easier to hold AND kept them from drying out for days. i eventually took mine home and kept it for a bit.

my best friend is contemplating getting her wedding flowers through the grocery store where her mother works [plus added possible discount!]

I live in Canada so I am not sure if they do this in the States as well but I am getting my bouquets and boutineers from Costco! They are absolutely beautiful and so affordable. My bouquet will be 2 dozen pink “shocking versilia” roses with 6 pink alstromeria, 10 pink freesia, some greenery, tied together with ribbon and it is costing me $59.99!! My BM bouquets will be just a smaller version of mine (12 roses instead of 24) and they cost $29.99. Boutineers are 1 rose with some “gypso million star”, greenery, pin and corsage box for $5 each. I have seen the flowers both at bridal fairs and used in friends wedding and they are georgeous! The only downside is that the bouquets are only roses.
You can order in your own flowers though and do a DIY bouquet if you are crafty and want more options than just roses. A friend of mine ordered bunches of different flowers, picked them up on the Thursday night, kept them in buckets of water in her Mom’s basement and then made her own bouquets on Saturday morning and they still looked as though they just came from a florist at about a sixth of the price.

Costco is a great place to get flowers. Also, for those in the Northeast, Stop and Shop do a pretty good job with flowers and for really cheap too. (and yes, they do weddings).
