Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!

Peer Pressure

March 8th, 2007 @ 4:53 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

After my vacuum post and all the responses regarding the various Dysons, I decided to go ahead and register for one. I’ve heard nothing but good things about them! So, I need your help.

We’re not going to register for the $600.00 one, because I honestly can’t warrant spending that amount on a vacuum. Or having family/friends spend that much. So, I’ve narrowed it down to three - the cheapest one is $399.99, the most expensive is $499.99. And yes, I am aware that that’s almost as expensive as the expensive one I scoffed at earlier. I also see the hypocrisy in that, as well. :) But even my Dad even said it was the “best out there.”

Anyway, here are the choices:

The $399.99 Dyson Yellow DC07

dyson1.jpg

The next one is the Dyson All Floors Ball Yellow DC15, $499.99

dyson2.jpg

And finally, the Dyson Animal DC07, with our short-haired dachshund, I don’t know if this is needed. This one is also $499.99.

dyson3.jpg

I like the ball action of the All Floors, and the ability to clean everywhere, but it’s expensive. And the animal, I like how it has the turbo suction for pet hair. Again, I don’t know if we really need all that suction.

Which one is better for us? We have a one bedroom apartment with all carpeting, not counting the bathroom and kitchen. The kitchen gets messy fast because it’s where Woofie (our dog) stays during the day.

What do you think?

We have the Ball and it’s GREAT!! We have a parrot at home that just sheds fuzz all over the place. Our condo is rather small but we know the vacuum will stick with us through the townhouses and houses over the years. I especially love how the handle pulls out into a hose, but I suppose all the Dysons do that.

We bought ours at Bed Bath & Beyond with a 20% off coupon, which immediately knocked $100 off the price. Linens ‘n Things takes competitor coupons too. Hope that helps!

Mine’s not heavy at all, although it IS a vacuum. I’d say….maybe 10 lbs? I’m awful at guessing these things, but as a weakling girly girl (aka: stick arms), I’ve had no problems lugging it around our place.

We have the DC07 and it gets the job done. I couldn’t imagine needing more in a vacuum. I’m sure you’d be happy with any of those choices.

I would go for the All floors…I compared it and the animal and both seemed to have really similar features as far as ability to pick up animal hair. Plus you never know what kind of flooring you’ll have in your next home.

I’m not sure which one we have, but I know that we did buy it at Costco. Its great for pet hair. We have 2 poochies and 1 of them has long hair.

Be sure to read consumer reports about the Dyson, it’s not rated well.

we just have the regualr dc07 - and its wonderful. also keep in mind if you want to get the cheaper version there are also extentions/tools that you can buy for it too. ive seen them at best buy, ive actually seen one specifically for pets. might want to check it out.

I have the Animal, and I like it overall, but if I had my druthers, I’d get the Ball, because I think it would be easier to maneuver. Not that the Animal is hard to maneuver, mind you. I just think the Ball would make life even easier :)

Oh, and no, Dyson’s are NOT heavy. As for the Consumer Reports thing…CR doesn’t like bagless vacuums. Period. Also, I find that CR often praises things I think are junk…

We have the DC07…you’ll be soo shocked to see how much hair and dust can get accumulated. Believe me, you’ll be vacuuming for hours!

i recommend the 07. it can be used on wood floors too.
i figured even if we get the low end dyson, it’s still a DYSON! and yes, you can get lots of attachments. love love love this dyson.

I have the ball - I love it. It’s fabulous. However, I can’t say that “the ball action” has been all that big a step up from our regular vacuum that doesn’t have the ball-swivel action going.

So, I would think the DC07 would be just dandy.

as for consumer reports - I agree, sometimes they’re off. I think the numerous dyson fanatics in the world (and the fact that people are actually buying $400+ vacuum cleaners) speaks for itself.

Just remember, you won’t always be living where you are living now-you will probably at some ponit be living in a larger place-also you may have more pets. These vacuums last forever,so just think about it.

we got the animal, but i never used it so i can’t say. ;)

in the future, i might opt for the miele vacuums - they’re small, cute, and are supposed to work really great!

Amazon.com has better prices for these vacuums; the all-floor ball is only $449, which is $50 off! So maybe look into registering there also, if you decide to go for a Dyson.
