A Unique Wedding Gift

March 9th, 2007 @ 3:30 pm by Mrs. Snow Pea

As a wedding gift, my good friend Handy Andy asked if he could do the crown moulding in our dining room. He knows it’s something I really wanted done and he said “Hey, it’s better than 10 toasters.” This was such a thoughtful and USEFUL gift. It would mean so much to me. Weddings are about love and unity. A new life. A new home. What could be more meaningful than a wedding gift that adds to our new home together. I will always look at our little dining room and say, that was a wedding gift. Aww I know. I am sap.

Miss Snow Pea says:

Thank you. He does it on the side. I should’ve clarified that the crown moulding isn’t done yet in the picture. sorry. He did the chair rail as you can see in the picture. I did the painting and removing the old wall paper.

One fairly common gift that I have heard of (and one that I am receiving myself) is a wedding cake. Several people that I know have had talented friends make their cake for them as a gift for the wedding and I am very lucky to have the mother of my sister-in-law offering to do the same. I have also heard of people doing other services such as the photography or catering for the wedding. My brother’s friend made him a dining room table for his wedding and, like Miss Snow Pea, it is something that added to their new home and something that will remind them of the love that went into the construction of the table everytime they sit down to eat.

Long story short, my sister is buying me a ticket to a broadway show.

We had a small church wedding with just a reception of punch, cake, and appetizers. A woman decorated our ceremony auditorium, reception area, and catered all the food. She took care of everything and we just had to bring everything to her.

It was a great gift because we didn’t have to worry about anything in that respect, just sit back and supervise.

Wow those are great gifts. I wish I would’ve thought of something more creative for my MOH when she got married.

I have a friend who is a costume conservator, and she is going to clean and preserve my wedding dress for me, and give me instructions on how to store/care for it.

Sadly, I live in NYC with tiny closets that are already full, so it will be stored at my parents’ house once she’s done with it…..

Miss Broccoli says:

That’s such a thoughtful idea! I love gifts like that.

My great aunt will be designing the branches for our cake, and Mr. Broccoli’s aunt will be making the cake. They’re such nice people to boot… I love that they offered to help. It means a lot.

Wow that’s great. I am glad to hear all these different gifts. It’s really nice when people add their personal touches by participation.

So beautiful! I would have loved for someone to install crown moulding for me. Yay for handy friends!

My graphic-designer-aunt designed and printed our invitations for us and my caterer-uncle got all our rentals at a steep discount (then proceeded to pay for them anyhow). Wedding services are always a great gift, and thye cut down on the number of vendors I had to find!

Anita, what a special gift. I am hoping that my FMIL crochets us a blanket. That would be really special. But as of right now, I don’t know of anything unique.

Our favorite gifts (aside from cash) were a digital camera and an underwater case for the camera, both of which we used during our honeymoon.

Miss Snow Pea says:

An underwater camera CASE? What a great idea. We have a honeymoon registry too, I’ll hve to add that to the list.

Personalized Cell Phone Flasks from http://www.Cellphoneflasks.com are a great idea. They even offer engravable leather and stainless steel liquor flasks.
