Beehive

March 9th, 2007 @ 5:19 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  1. Maricris wants to know if anyone has had experience ordering bridal flower collections from online sites such as costco of proflowers.
  2. erin is wondering if anyone has good photos or sites that show invitation maps. She’d like to gather a few ideas of more “artistic” versions.
  3. Kimmarie is going to perform the Korean paebaek during the cocktail hour. How long do they usually last and is it feasible to do it during the cocktail hour?
  4. Miss Bear is looking for a NYC day of coordinator who can also help book her last two vendors. NY-based bees - who did you use and like?
  5. Kim is getting married in May and her bms are wearing pink tea-length dresses of their choice. The last bm is looking at nonwedding sites since it’s so close. Any suggestions other than Nordstroms or Ann Taylor?
  6. fishgal needs to find bm dresses quick for her May and is looking for recommendations in the OC area, preferably off the rack. Also recommendations for wedding vendors in the same area?
  7. ot is making her own envelope liners - what type of adhesive should she use so the envelope won’t wrinkle?
  8. Leesuh is looking for paebaek/hanbok rental places in Dallas.
  9. Ana is looking for flipflops for her Hawaiian wedding. Any suggestions to buy them cheap in SF?

2. erin - check out snappymap.com, couturemaps.com, distinctivedirections.com (get 10% off when you create them thru wedding mappr)

3. kimmarie, yes you have enough time to do it during the cocktail hour. the length depends on how many people are participating, but you can tailor it to fit the amount of time you have. ours lasted about 20-25 min.

4. miss bear - my doc’s were great. they charge $2500 for day of, but it might be slightly less if your wedding is coming right up in the off season. inanyevent.biz

5. kim and fishgal - my favorite place for bm dresses right now is jcrew. other places you might look include bluefly, any department store like macys, bloomies, etc., specific lines like bcbg or laundry carry a lot of bridesmaid-esque dresses. both of you actually might still have time to order them from netbride too!

good luck everyone! :)

1. Maricris,
I actually answered your question yesterday, but in case you didn’t see it, I’ll repost my answer.

I’ve ordered a test bunch from 2groses.com, and I thought the quality was really good. My florist aunt said that their alstros (the flowers I’m planning to use) were actually better quality than those her wholesaler sells. Be prepared to eat it a bit on the shipping, though, since the flowers are shipped overnight with blue ice packs. I know I was shocked at the shipping charges.

Q. Kimmarie is going to perform the Korean paebaek during the cocktail hour. How long do they usually last and is it feasible to do it during the cocktail hour?

A.Like Mrs Bee said, it all depends on the number of family/relatives that you will have i the paebek. The more people there are, the more time will be spent on bowing to each of them.

We had our paebek during cocktail hour and it took about 50 minutes. This included getting changed, bowing to each set of parents, bowing to each side of relatives, bowing to our siblings/cousins, piggyback thing, taking photos, and getting changed again.

Just a hint: we had alot of relatives for our paebek. To reduce time, we bowed to each side of relatives as a group, instead of bowing to them individually (eg. bow to one pair of aunt/uncle, then bowing to the next aunt aunt/uncle etc)

Question:
I have been looking ALL OVER for rice paper. My mother had some with all of her scrapbooking supplies, but couldn’t remember where she got it. I want to use it for my DIY invites, but I can’t find it anywhere! Does anyone know what I’m even talking about and where to find it?!

Maricris– I’ve heard both good and bad things about ordering from Costco. A friend ordered some roses and they never showed… they returned her money, but she was in quite a predicament two days before the wedding with no coral roses. However, that was only one person. I’ve heard other people rave about them (it’s a good deal). Good luck!

I used the costco flowers with great results. More info in bio. I would definitely use them again. Loved my flowers and the price was amazing.

kimmarie, like mrs. bee and justbride, i think it all depends on the #of relatives you have to bow to. we’re doing ours towards the end of the reception. reason being, during the cocktail hour, we’ll be busy taking photos and our families will be busy enjoying the food/drinks during the cocktail hour. i’ve heard that you should estimate about an hr for the entire paebaek to take place. especially if you’re changing in and out of your wedding dress. sometimes wedding dresses take some time changing into and getting bustled.

why doesn’t someone just link to and/or write a post about paebaek ceremonies? there seem to be a lot of questions about it in the beehives

Hi Bees!
I live in Canada and so sometimes shipping costs are crazy expensive for retailers in the States. I absolutely love the pink and white swirl lollipops from Favors and Flowers that have been blogged about on Weddingbee by Miss Strawberry on February 28th but it will cost me $70+ US to have them shipped to me in Saskatchewan, almost doubling the cost of the lollipops. I have been looking everywhere for a comparable product but can’t find anything. Does anyone have any ideas?

ot : go to paper source type in “liner” in search function and click on pic that comes up- materials needed and video for envelope lining come up… according to them craft glue works. good luck!

Question for the hive: can someone tell me if an aisle runner is truly necessary? I’m getting married in a Catholic church, if that helps. It just seems like an unnecessary expense to me…

Does anyone know where I can find affordable hanging votives? I can’t find them anywhere!

Aliya:
IMO aisle runners are purely a stylistic choice, a decoration, so if it isn’t something that you want you can absolutely scratch it off your list. I have actually never been to a wedding where there was an aisle runner…

I have a question for you all the DIY brides.

What paper trimmer do you recommend and how much was it? I am really bad a cutting paper with regular scissors. I will be cutting 8 1/2 by 11 sheets, so should I get a 12 inch trimmer? Rotary or Guillotine? Which gives a straighter cut? Thanks!
