BM News Layout

March 9th, 2007 @ 12:08 pm by Mrs. Snow Pea

This is the layout for the bridesmaid newsletter I created last month…

The Front and Back cover. On the Front, I wrote “a letter from the bride” like a letter from the editor in magazines. On the Back, I found a barcode font so I was able to type my own personalized barcode and to look like a real magazine.new1

Centerfold-First I drew the outline of the skyline. I left the WTC in memory.

Then I filled it in with color.

Then I added their photos as if they were in a window in the buildings.

Are you planning on making bridesmaid newsletters?

I’ve read a bit about bridesmaid newsletters, and this is absolutely beautiful. You must have put a lot of work into it - lovely and I’m sure your BM’s will adore it!

On the other hand, I don’t really get the point of them. Is it mainly if you have a bridal party who live scattered about the country or in other cities, to keep them in the loop or help them feel included? I have my sister and two best friends who all live close to me and I see them all the time, and they are all involved in the planning process. I don’t feel the need to put any money or time into a newsletter when I have so many other demands on my time and money for the wedding. That’s just me though and it’s more of a time and budget management issue - I do like the idea of it.

While my bridesmaids are all over the country, they might try and bop me on the head if I tried something like this, not because they wouldn’t appreciate it but because they would know it was an “extra” in a world where I just don’t have time for extras, or I’m doing extras to avoid, say, my thesis writing! LOL.

It is beautiful though, and I’m almost tempted to make one instead of write that next chapter….must resist….

Very pretty! I never really had a time where I could make a newsletter because all of their wedding details evolved over time and due to their needs. I like to send little email updates instead… it helps me make sure I’m keeping in touch with everyone!

great job! it’s really beautiful.

however, i’m not doing this. why?
1. no time. or more like i don’t want to make time for another wedding “extra.” i’m in the process of trying to simplify my WR tasks.
2. my BMs are quite busy, too, and i doubt they’ll really read it.
3. our wedding party is small.
4. we’re trying to follow KISS (keep it simple, stupid) in terms of stuff for our bridal party. we want to make this experience as painless as possible for them, so we don’t want to overload them with tons of details and info that they don’t need and probably don’t want to know.

that said, i think it is a nice touch to give them a sense of the “big picture”/what they are a part of, the section on chinese wedding customs could be useful, etc.

This is very impresssive. Great job! If I put a newsletter together for my 8 bridesmaids, they will definitely read the whole thing and appreciate every little detail in it. (NO MATTER HOW BUSY THEY ARE!!!) This is just too much effort to be neglected.

THank you for sharing! You must be an awesome friend.

Amazing job, its gorgeous, I don’t think I’ll do a bridesmaid letter but I’ll probably do an out of town newsletter on occasion just to keep people that actually care about the plans up to date.

That is absolutely incredible! I would love to do something that professional looking. I do plan on sending out a bridesmaid newsletter. I don’t know if it will be that thick but I would love it to look so lovely.

OMG you should go work for a magazine! it is so beautiful and professional. i have also sent out a couple of bridesmaid newsletters, but they were black and white, done in Word, and emailed. i also wrote them when i was bored at work. :-D yet my BM think i’m STILL crazy for all that…i should show them your layout!!

Pretty! You did an awesome job on it. I made a newsletter for my BM (it wasn’t quite that long) and they all loved it. They keep asking me when the next issue is coming out. :-)

Thank you ladies for all the compliments.

It was definately a labor of love. I just enjoy this sort of thing. I try to be disciplined about the “extras” and did this after final exams. Otherwise I would definately procrastinate from studying.

I used Photoshop to create it. I had alot of cardstock leftover from making the Save the Dates. ($15/50 sheets 12×18) Our graphic artist friend printed them for me after an episode I had with Kinkos. Argh

It was definately something I just wanted to do. I don’t get to talk to my bms all the time and they kept asking me the same questions over and over again. They too wanted to get an overall “vision” of the wedding so I thought this would help sum things up and they would know what roles they will be needed for.

it’s really beautiful and I would have loved to get one as a BM, but it’s a lot of work too. I just send out simple emails and that’s it.

You did a great job! What are the flowers on your front cover?

Hi K,

The flowers on the front cover is a picture I took of my sample centerpiece.

The pink fluffy flower is a Peony. The lime green are cymbidium orchids. Then there is some light pink roses in there.

That really does look amazing! There are awesome “painstaking” details (the skyline and barcode!) but it does show the time and care you put into it. I like that you didn’t do the very traditional “aisle file.” And if I was your bridesmaid, I would know it and see how much you care about your BM’s, and your wedding (besides how talented you are).

On the other hand, this is something that I, too, never found the time for. I have found that the healthy email circle works well for me and my BM’s. :-)

I love your color choices! Very professional and fabulous… as a bridesmaid in 3 weddings I would have loved to get a newsletter like this, if just to have it to put in my scrapbook!
