Mrs. Kiwi's Picture
Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!
About Mrs. Kiwi

As a way to save more money, Mr. Kiwi and I have given up our Disneyland season tickets. :( The couple of hundreds of dollars will be better used at part of my dress deposit, or twice the floral deposit. So when I think of it that way, it’s okay.

Even though I hadn’t really gone to Disneyland that much before Mr. Kiwi, I now have this sense of longing when I see anything Disney related. I suppose this is silly, and I honestly can’t fathom missing something this much, but I do. I can’t explain it. If I truly think about it, it could be because we went there in the first month of dating, and throughout the time we had our passports (what season tickets are called) our relationship grew into love. I can almost see a progression of our relationship in the park.

My first trip to Disney was a gift from my late grandma. She bought our family season tickets when I was seven. Luckily, at that time my parents still liked each other, and it was such a happy visit - despite the rain. All my memories of Disneyland are great, and mean so much to me.

I sound like such a martyr, don’t I? “I gave up tickets to Disneyland for my WEDDING.” Boo hoo.. Cry me a river. :P

Anyway, I assume a lot of us have given up something for our weddings - how about you?

I feel the same way about disney, that would be hard to give up, I, right before me and my bf started discussing planning our wedding, found a beautiful vera bradley tote that I really wanted, so I went in search on ebay and had been impatiently waiting for a good deal to come along when we started talking about how we were going to afford a wedding and we could do to save, so I unsaved the tote on my ebay favorites and have tried not to search ebay just to look at it, it is my biggest sacrifice so far, but we are at the very begining we are getting married of May of 2008 so I’m waiting to see what other kinds of things I will have to give up for my dream wedding.

So far I haven’t really given up anything outside the wedding but I have had to downgrade or give up some of my “dream” wedding details and that has been tough. I also don’t want to sound like I am complaining either because I think my wedding is still going to be beautiful and the things that I have downgraded or given up would be the little extra personalization kinds of things. I am finding it hard to walk that line of practicality and “this is our one shot at the perfect wedding” but luckily I have a great FI and he seems to instinctively know what I REALLY want and what I just think would be cute. What usually happens is that he will veto whatever it is and I will be sad for a couple of days but then a week will go by and I will barely remember what it is that I wanted.
I do feel your Disney pain though. I LOVE Disneyland. It truely is “The Happiest Place on Earth” My Mom asks me why we aren’t going to Cali and Disneyland for our honeymoon at least once a month.
