Non-Floral Eyelet Shoes = CHECK

March 9th, 2007 @ 11:11 am by Mrs. Lime

Last Friday, I took advantage of the amazing weather and took a walk along Montana Ave. during lunch. I stopped by The Montclair Collection to look at bridesmaid dresses (good reviews, good customer service despite the fact I dropped in without an appointment while they were helping quite a few other ladies. But you definitely pay bridal salon prices it seems from the bridesmaid dress tags, at least).

I peeked my head into a new store, The Twelfth Step for Shoe Addicts (very cute boutique, by the way), where I found THESE:

They met all my criteria for wedding shoes–approx. 3.5″ high, wedges or other heel that won’t sink into grass, not too causal, not too formal, unique somehow, classic in shape. Unfortunately, they only come in black, and the price tag was way beyond my budget ($362 + 8.25% sales tax…GULP).

But but but…I truly <3 eyelet, especially non-floral eyelet, despite my usual all-things-girly-and-fussy-hating attitude. Once upon a time, I even considered eyelet in my wedding a la an old MS Weddings spread even though it was inappropriate for the overall look and feel we’re trying to achieve. Anyway, these look funny here, but the cut of the shoe is great. They look amazing on and are surprisingly comfy for the height of the heel.

But then, an image of [cheaper] white eyelet shoes popped up in the back of my visual memory. These reminded me of *something* I had come across before somewhere. I got home and scoured the sites from which I get my usual shoe “window” shopping fix. Eureka! WHITE eyelet! Same non-floral eyelet! $49.95! Free shipping promotion! Whew, now I’m out of breath. I rarely get this excited (four exclamation marks in a row’s worth)over anything.

The only downside, the heel is *only* 2 inches high. This means my true shortness will be more evident, I will have to hem my dress (which has a complicatedly draped skirt) a bit more than I anticipated, and if I have to change to my backup shoes I may have a highwater hemline. Review to come on the shoes when I receive them in a few days.

Here are some more options, if those don’t work for you:

Also, maybe instead of hemming more you could just get a fatter crinoline (if you were planning on using one, that is…)

thanks for the links, ladies! another requirement i had was no cork/wood/espadrille-type material. i did come across those, but they weren’t quite right.

go amie, no crinoline here. the dress already has a layer built in, and i’m anti-poof. i’m really short (5′2″), so even with a fatter crinoline, the dress will be too long :(. boo to shortness! thanks for the idea, though…that is a good one!

Aww, well, hopefully the ones you ordered will work for you! But I’m your same height, and I think you should embrace it! I say yay to shortness!

Oh, maybe you could take the shoes to a shoe repair shop and see if they could extend the heel somehow, with an insert or a platform sole or something…

I like your eyelet shoes better than all of the suggestions. ;)
