The Countdown…Words of Advice

March 9th, 2007 @ 11:40 am by Mrs. Peach

OMG. I have about 2 weeks until the wedding. (Thus the decrease/lack of posts… I apologize.) Man, I never knew there was so much to do so close to the wedding! I’m the type of person who doesn’t procrastinate, is always on top of things… until I started wedding planning! Ahhhh!! >_<

Yeah and I am not dealing so hotly with the stress/tiredness. I have sores all along the bottom and top of my inner lip/gums. Yep. It’s really gross. I mean I get a sore or two once in awhile when I’m really tired/stressed, but even with all my crazy years at college/grad school (and I went to a pretty hardcore place), I have NEVER gotten sores like this. *blech*

Anyhoooo right now my one word of advice to all future brides would be: PLAN AHEAD!!

As I am nearing the final weeks, do you have any words of advice for me (and other brides who are reading this and are in the same boat)? For ex. how to best prep the skin for the next two weeks, attitude, packing, etc. etc. Eeeeekkkkk I cannot believe it’s so close.

breathe miss peach breathe…eh, i say this now, but wait till it’s my turn. gargle salt water for the sores, and AMBISOL is good for relieving the pain. sleeeeeep is essential for relief from the sores and for good skin. 2 wks is sooo close. you’ll be beautiful, fantastic, amazing, and wonderful. GOOD LUCK MISS PEACH!! can’t wait to see your pictures. =)

I work for a beauty school (though I’m not a licensed esthetician) and I always hear from the teachers here that you should not start a new skin regime right before a big event. Like don’t rush out and try microdermabrasion or anything like that if you haven’t been doing it already - or your skin might freak out! But for the lip sores, I’d recommend seeing a dermatologist or your internist for advice. You want to make sure that is taken care of.

Miss Peach - it’s all going to be fine! Everything will come together and panicking at the last minute doesn’t help anyone, certainly not you!

As for the sores, skin, etc… cut out caffeine and start drinking lots of water! I’ve heard that vitamin E is great for closing up sores, and gargling with salt water always helps too!

Also, if you get a free minute, maybe try to get in a quick one hour massage! A bit of relaxation and a bit of space to keep your mind off of wedding planning might do wonders for your mental health.

I get those same mouth sores when I get stressed so I totally feel your pain. Don’t worry, you can kiss all you want on your honeymoon- I’ve got the answer! You can buy over the counter mouthwash called Perixo….(something or the other) at any drugstore. I can’t remember the name but it comes in a white bottle with a blue label and it looks like a bottle of scope or something. It is great and works very quickly! Don’t stress, you will be beautiful and your wedding will be amazing.

Make sure you get as much as possible done this week, so you don’t have to worry as much next week.
Also, fill your tip envelopes, write any notes to your husband, bridal party, parents, etc this weekend. Don’t leave that until the last night.
You will enjoy everything more your wedding day if you stick strictly to your schedule, too. Best wishes!

It sounds like you just need a bit of de-stressing and try to stay grounded during these last few weeks. It’s the stress that causes you to develop skin problems, mouth sores, etc. My biggest worry when I get close to my wedding is that I’ll have a big fat cold sore on my lip - I always get them when I’m stressed and I can’t imagine anything worse than that (beauty-wise) on my wedding day! Anyway, here’s a few suggestions to help with the stress… I do NOT recommend trying all of them, just pick one or two favourites!

-make sure you get enough sleep
-if you’re having trouble sleeping because you’re too worried or stressed, maybe keep a notebook and write down your concerns. I find if I’m worried about something I always have trouble falling asleep because I’m afraid I’ll forget to deal with the worrisome details when I wake up. If I write them down, I know I won’t forget and it relieves the worrying.
-make a comprehensive to-do list with a timeline to help keep you on track, so nothing falls through the cracks. Then just methodically go through the items
-cut out or reduce caffeine intake and drink lots of water
-go for a walk in a calming environment - not on city streets, maybe in a park somewhere
-take a long hot bubblebath with candles lit in the room and play soothing music
-get a massage - doesn’t have to be expensive, this is what your FI is for!!
-have you tried yoga? If you are new to it, this is probably not the time to start, because it can sometimes take awhile to get the hang of it, but if you have done it before, you might really reap the stress-relief benefits of it
-call a close friend and vent!

Try to enjoy the ride, you only get to do this once so drink in the whole heady experience :)

Miss Peach,

It’s going to be fine, you’re going to be fine. In addition to the above advice, if you truly find yourself truly overwhelmed the week of, see if there is anything that can be cut out. As much as you want all those little details done, there might be a diy project whose absence will not be noticed. For instance in my case it was programs, which most people do not keep or even read…and when circumstances forced us to go off the planned program during the ceremony, nobody but the wedding party knew about it. Do not over-schedule yourself in the last week.

I’m sure given all the work you have already put into your wedding, it’s going to be wonderful and special. The best thing you can do is to truly be “present” for the wedding day (and hopefully the events leading up to it) and really be with the ones you love. Know that not everything will go as planned. Don’t sweat the small stuff. If you have a coordinator you trust, let her/him handle the details and just enjoy this day that will pass more quickly than you’d like.

Everything will work out.

avoid dairy - it tends to make asian skin break out. don’t get a facial tho this close to the wedding. some basic regular exfoliation will be good.

make a list of phone numbers for the wedding party and all vendors, checklists for things to bring, and schedules. give copies of the schedules & phone numbers to your wedding party and family.

have someone or diy have a food plan for the morning of. you don’t want to be hungry.

try to get a good nights sleep. i took tylenol pm in case i couldn’t fall asleep.

and most important of all, no matter what little things may go wrong… and they will… just enjoy the day. it sounds simple enough, but i think that’s actually the hardest part of the wedding day! you have to remember to have fun, take it all in, be happy and not worry about the small stuff.

i also suggest setting aside a bit of alone time for you and mr peach after the ceremony and before the reception.

the big day is almost here! :)

My wedding is a week from today! Yikes! I’m going to pack way ahead of time. I’m going to make a list. I’m also making an itinerary, so I can plan how many days I’ll need clothes for, wehat I’m doing each day, and when we need to be where (destination wedding). And, I still don’t have wedding shoes. Tsk! I’ll be okay though.

Bandon and I’s 4 year anniversary is on the 24th, too! We’d be wed that day if we could have taken the honeymoon first, but since spring break is a set time, we had to have the wedding on the 16th and the cruise the following week. :)

good luck miss peach! i’m sure it’ll will beautiful;) just don’t stress! (easier said than done, i know)
i get canker(sp?) sores too, when i get really stressed out or start to get sick. i have Crohn’s Disease. it’s an auto-immune that kicks into high gear with stress, so i’m trying to chill (my wedding is next month, i’ll be singing a different tune on April 24th, i’m sure!)
I find Anbesol works wonders. they’re painful, but not contageous, ulcers. at least that’s what they sound like. best wishes! You’ll be beautiful and no one will ever know!

Miss Peach, this will be the most important day of your life. Try to take a step back and enjoy it. Don’t expect it to be perfect, nothing ever is, expect things to go wrong.

I agree planning ahead is a great way to reduce the stress…

Here’s a couple of others…

- Don’t make your wedding too complicated
- Automate some of your planning (wedding website, guest lists, RSVPs, automated emails)
- Yoga
- Exercise
- Eat healthy
- Spa day- massage, manicure
- Pedicure 1 week prior

Hope you enjoy your day!

On top of all of the wonderful advice you’ve already been given I’d say to find 2 or 3 people that you truly trust and delegate! There will likely be things that you just can’t pass off but if you hand over what you can to others that should cut your to-do list down significantly and hopefully reduce your stress level as well.
