Wrapping My Ladies In Silk

March 9th, 2007 @ 4:07 pm by Mrs. Lime

Yes, I will be wrapping my best ladies in silk. Dupioni silk, to be exact. After many emails back and forth with probably close to a hundred links, I narrowed it down to these three for the girls:

[From left to right: Watters & Watters #7415, Saeyoung Vu Couture 'Marysol T,' and Bari Jay #318]

We’ve decided on the Watters dress, which I know Miss Raspberry was also considering. I have found them in the $160 range, but they do not have the right shade of pool or soft aqua that I am looking for. I have access via work to lots of fabric at cost, or I can always shop for it in the garment district. I will be visiting a few local seamstresses next weekend to get quotes. I was also thinking of maybe softening the neckline to a slight sweetheart as well, to make it a bit more flattering. Plus I’ve got a few recommendations for seamstresses who could possibly do it for under $100 per dress. My girls will be grateful, I’m sure.

A few knottie bios with the Watters dress:

Before this decision, I also took advantage of Nordstrom’s $5 flat rate shipping to order and model a few of the dresses for my BMs. Please ignore the non-matching, wrong size shoes I have on.

The aforementioned Bari Jay. Very cute, but one BM has a very similar dress from a former wedding she was in. The ‘Misty Blue’ color is gorgeous but not the right shade for our wedding :(.

A Maggy London. The color was *almost* right, but we decided the style was a little too trendy and not our favorite. Yay for bridesmaids that have similar minimal taste!

This one was wrong on a few levels. The style could be cute, but not in the poly taffeta it was made of. Plus the color is way wrong (think mermaids, which is why I am standing in front of the fish tank. It’s where I belong with that color on!). And yes, it’s not zipped up all the way, either, which I didn’t notice until taking it off. It does come in a cute red and a different turquoise for only $68 each, though.

I loooove the first one!

Wrong on a few levels…haha. I would probably snicker if I saw that dress at a wedding. It’s a cute style, but that material/color… oh me… I’m thinking wrong on a whole new level.

i think a slight sweetheart neckline would look really nice!

i actually purchased the last dress in black, and you’re right - the fabric was horrible! it looked cute online tho…

I like all three choices at the top! :) You do have good taste. I think you looked really good in the Bari Jay, too — the empire waist is so flattering. Like it!

I am using the Watters&Watters Dupioni silk dresses in Adriatic and Aqua. The colors in real life are very different from the website, but it sounds like their ‘Aqua’ is the best match for the color you want (they didn’t have the teal/pool color that I wanted either, so I figured both colors would sort of even it out).
I’m not sure if you’ve tried on that Watters dress, but the tie can make it look funny on. I ended up letting all of my bridesmaids pick out whichever dupioni silk dress they liked in either or both colors as long as it was floor length (although I sounds like you want tea length for yours…)

You are so ready for America’s Next Top Model. My favorite pose? The one where your hair is UNDER the halter. Ha! :D

#1 is cutest, but I agree — not the right color. Boo. :(

thanks for the warning, cubangirl. i am going to talk to whichever seamstress i use about how to make the tie work well.

monkey, ha! i was wondering if anyone would notice. i had to blur out my face b/c it would have the effect that “magnum” has on the masses.

Avid WB reader and bride to be…for months I’ve been admiring your wedding color scheme and attention to detail :) So while looking for my own bridal accessories on the web, I came across these and thought they could be nice as bridesmaids gifts - and they seem to match your colors too! Anyway, just FYI for fun :)
