Yummy Hair

March 10th, 2007 @ 9:04 pm by Mrs. Blueberry

My hair smells pretty darn good right now, if I do say so myself.

I have really fine hair and have a lot of trouble finding good hair products that don’t make my hair look flatter and duller than it already does. So last week I picked up Pantene’s new Time Renewal shampoo (it promises to repair 2 years of damage, with one month of use):

z773751
($5.99 on Walgreens.com)

I plan on using it for the next month as recommended, which will take me to the 2-months-before-the-wedding mark. Since my hair has a tendency to go flat, I’m doing the restoratives far enough in advance that right before the wedding I’ll be back into my usual shampoo and my hair should have as much volume as I like, but with added health and shine. I hope.

I’m hoping that by doing these treatments in advance, I can have “normal” hair by the time the wedding comes ’round–not full of unusual products that weigh me down, but still beautiful from their recent use.

Oh, and by the way–even though it isn’t expensive, it really does work well– I can already tell that my hair looks shinier and healthier than before! But it is heavier and flatter feeling, so if you’re a thin-haired bride like me, you might not want to use it too close to the time of your wedding!

Are there any other fine-haired BTB’s out there? What are you doing pre-wedding to help your locks?

I have baby-fine, thick, curly hair. It’s a challenge finding products that work for my hair. I’m a big fan of gel since it’s so light, but I am looking into a deep conditioner.

I have fine hair and use Jonathan volumizing products or Paul Mitchell Lemon sage tea tree products. Best of all, they are cruelty free :) I’ve found they don’t weigh down my hair or strip it of its natural state.

A hairdresser taught me to dry my hair in sections or air dry. Also, if I don’t shower in the am, to put my hair up in a clip while I put my makeup on and get ready. Having the hair up will add fullness once I take it down.

Having layers cut also helps :)

Miss Tulip: As a fellow curly girl, I recommend Goldwell Moisture Definition Intensive Treatment for a deep conditioner. Great stuff, but not super heavy and no silicones that will coat your hair.

if you have fine hair, don’t use heavy conditioning treatments like that pantene (unless you did some hair-stripping bleaching, dying, perming, etc). aside from cutting your hair short with lots of layers (instant poofiness), you need to use volumizing products and root lifters, blow dry your hair upside-down on a low, cold setting, and use a clarifying shampoo once a week (the best is neutrogena’s anti-residue). and don’t overdo it with the conditioner. good luck!

ps - there are other ways of getting shiny, pantene commercial swooshing hair!

Annie–thanks for the advice! You actually just described just what I do :-) I’ve been taking care of my fine hair for a long time, so I’ve figured out what works best for me. I do color my hair every few months so I do condition on occasion.

For daily use, I have found that Garnier Fructis’ volumizing products work really well. To give my hair volume when I style it, I work in a little bit of Vidal Sassoon volumizing mousse, blow-dry, then put in just a bit of GF’s volumizing gel, tease it just a tiny bit (not too much!) and finish of with GF volumizing hairspray.

But like I said, I do need to undo my years of blow drying and coloring, and in the 2 weeks so far I’ve used the Pantene stuff, it’s done the job! But you’re right, it’s nothing I’d recommend for regular use–it weighs down my hair too much.
