The Hardest Decision Yet

March 12th, 2007 @ 1:06 pm by Mrs. Lemon

Flowers. I love them! I love them so much, in fact, that I can’t for the life of me decide what I want. I’ve tried for months to figure out which flowers I’d like in my bouquet, and with all of the photos and articles and research I’ve done, nothing has popped off the page and into my heart. I even made MULTIPLE trips to the LA Flower Mart (one of the most magical places on earth) and found myself drawn to completely different flowers at every single vendor.

So instead of flower types, I seemed to keep sorting the ideas into three categories: 1) Those don’t look like wedding flowers, 2) They worked well for you but they’re not for me and 3) I’m blinded by all the pretty pictures! None of these categories have anything consistent about them, and I’m pretty sure I have pictures of daisies, roses and peonies in every single one. So you can imagine the difficulty I had in trying to describe that I want pretty pretty flowers without any sort of substance behind my desire.

And thus, I gave up! Yup… instead of worrying about it anymore, I handed complete control over to a florist whose portfolio fell in the “I’m blinded by all the pretty pictures!” category, spit out all the descriptors I could relate to my visions of my wedding, and I will wait for the end product on the big day. It’s costing me a little more than some might be willing to spend, but the removal of this huge burden has been a major relief!

And to put a little bit of vision to my words… here are some of the portfolio pictures that wooed me from Kim England’s website:

I am so glad someone else is having flower issues. For months too, I have gone back and forth and nothing seems to be a decision. The rest of my details have fallen into place. My issue is the bridesmaid dresses- black with a champagne colored sash. I wanted springy pinks and greens but am not sure if it will go with the dress or if I should just do callas… I too might put it in the hands of the florist.

Wow I see your dilemma. They are all so unique and beautiful. I love the feathers! When it came down to it, I just went along with my florists suggestions. She seemed to know what went with what and I am more than happy not to worry about it anymore.

i love the feathers and the one with the butterfly! the textural elements in them are awesome.

is she creating a sample centerpiece for you? i’d definitely have that done to make sure it works with your ultimate vision. i did this with my brother’s florist and boy am i happy i did. she was great, but i wasn’t in love with the first pass. second time around was a ok!

she has a great portfolio so i’m sure you’ll have the gorgeous flowers you’re dreaming of. ;)

I bet she loves you too as a bride! Free reign! (well within budget I presume) I’m sure you’ll get lovely, lovely flowers. I’m pretty much the same way, I gave my florist some initial pictures of things I liked, mostly in the same color families and she’s an old family friend and she’ll go have fun with those ideas and come up with many many more I’m sure!

Oh my gosh I’m having the same problem! And, honestly, it never occurred to me to just put it in the hands of a very talented florist. That’s such a fantastic idea, I may have to do the same!

i agree w/ what mrs. bee said…
your florist has a great portfolio, but i’d def. check out a sample cp/bouquet, etc. to just confirm that you’re on board with what she envisions for you. :)

i’ve had many different floral ideas in my head for some time now…so i was pretty specific when i met with a vendor…but luckily for me, he’s a floral genius so i could see myself trusting him~

Mrs. Bee & kp: Luckily I’ve taken care of the centerpieces myself (candles!) so that’s not too much of a battle… and I have a “sample” meeting in a couple weeks just to talk it through for a final time. I also heard from other brides that used her services that were in my shoes… and everyone was amazed with the end product. But relaxing feels soooo much better :)

Good call!
I’m sure with inspirational photos like that your florist will do a fantastic job, and hopefully she’ll add something else like fruit or feathers because that’s a common theme with your pictures.

I can’t wait to see them! :)

Great pictures. After looking at what you like, I would say the thing you are drawn to or are looking for is texture. Lots of different elements that work together but have interesting textures to create different depths. Does that sound right?
I think you have great taste and I’m sure your florist will come up with something beautiful.
It’s nice to know someone else has problems with decisions other than me!! : )
