About Mrs. Strawberry

I’m A Whole Lotta Woman

March 13th, 2007 @ 4:02 pm by Mrs. Strawberry

Cute and petite doesn’t begin to describe me. Not even close. Barefoot, I’m five foot nine. And a half. I hate that half. Mr. Strawberry is six feet exactly. Three inch heels are out of the question. Which is quite devastating because all of the cute shoes I see have huge heels. Is it possible to saw the heels in half? :)

Being shorter than Mr. Strawberry isn’t the only reason I need small heels or flats for that matter. I opted out of buying the extra fabric for my dress that cost $500 more. So, unless I want the bottom of my dress to hit at my ankles…I need to find shoes under 2 inches tall. That task is harder than I had once anticipated. Here is what I’m looking for:

1. low heel

2. bow

3. under $200 ( I’m willing to give a little on this for fabulousness!)

Do I have to resort to shoe making myself!? These are the only ones I found and I’m not IN LOVE. :(

K–those are totally cute! I’m not locked into pricey shoes at all. I might even have my BM check those out in pink!! :) Thanks!

I looked and looked and all I could find were these two pairs. One of them has a 2 1/4″ heel.

I am in the have the problem as you! Try All About Weddings by southcenter. They are the best! Lost of cute low options (that are not ugly) and they will let you borrow the shoe for your first fitting. If you like it they will just run your card through and if it didnt work take it back and borrow another.

haha… well, I definitely AM petite ~ only 5′2″ ~ but my FI is also short, 5′5″. When we started dating it was the first time I’d ever had to worry about heel height, since I love high heels. I have a bunch of tall sorority sisters (5′10″ and up) who were mad that I was complaining about it since they’ve had to deal with this for a long time :-P

Suffice to say… I usually just wear the heels, but for the wedding I want to be shorter than FI… I ended up with these shoes:

No bow, but I think they’re really cute, and a nice small heel!

I have the heels cut on my shoes all the time. Tall shoes hurt my feet. I just take it to my local cobbler (do they exist outside of nyc? mine is in my subway station). I would recommend cutting the heel on leather shoes, you’d have to find a good cobbler to do satin.

Wait… if you’re big.. than I’m walking in the land of giants since I’m taller than Mr. Strawberry!!!!

Low heels are hard to find… but you have to keep looking! :) I always find a good selection at Nordstrom & they will order shoes for me there as well.

I am right there with you! I’m 5′9″ and in the exact same boat with the dress length/heel height issue! It sucks.

Have you looked at non-wedding shoes at all? I bought a pair off Piperlime.com that are gold Oscar de la Rentas with a kitten heel. I will likely return them because I don’t think the style will look right with my dress, but my point is you might do better if you cast a wider net.

Good luck …

I’m not tall, but my fi isn’t so tall either, so I’m not wearing heels. My shoes are from zappos, was about 75 bucks and it wasn’t white, but it was gold with lace with a bow, and totally comfortable.

My problem is precisely the opposite. There is a good 13 inches between me and the fiancÆ’©. It would be great to be able to wear smaller heels and have happy feet for my wedding day! Ironically, all of the white (or white-ish) shoes I’ve seen in department stores (I’m too picky about shoes to buy via the web) have low heels. If you don’t need to have designer shoes, it might be worth it to check out a local mall.

Great post! We’re both 5′10″ and I haven’t been able to find any cute kitten heel/flat shoes (I don’t want ballet slippers). Keep up posted - the wedding is in June and I haven’t found anything yet!

I’m in the exact same boat, I’m 5′10″ and my FI is 6′ even. I’m thinking about cute shoes for the ceremony and comfy flats for the reception.

This site had some good choices

I think I’m definitely getting these for the ceremony though, they’re just too cute! Maybe I’ll just bend my knees a little and it wont’ be so obvious!

i have a similar problem. i need to find shoes under 2 inches as well. (medical reason however, i’m a shortie) it’s realy hard. i would say to look at non-traditional sources, such as the mall or outlet stores. i found mine at kohl’s for about $5 on the clearence rack. happy shoe hunting!

hey, where did my comments all go?!

my suggestion was to buy a basic white strappy 2″ heel and then buy ribbon to make your own bow and glue or sew it onto your shoe. VOILA!

or talk to your seamstress and see if she can let out 1-2 inches of the bottom of you hem to make it longer. or take out a layer of crinoline if your dress has it to make it lay flatter/longer.
