Open Question: Where To Sell?

March 14th, 2007 @ 3:56 pm by Open Question

Dear weddingbee,

I recently tried to sell my designer wedding dress, veil, accessories, etc. on ebay with no success! Is there a place or website you could recommend that is the best place to try to sell your once gently used wedding items? I know there are several sites out there, but not sure which one is the best.

Thanks again!

S.

Have you tried a forum like Indiebrides, or one of the wedding Livejournal communities? They all have large memberships, so you’d have a good chance of selling your bridal items.

hi s,

we will eventually create a classified section where brides can sell items after their wedding. but until then…

you may try posting on the popular messageboards like theknot, pricescope, and liweddings (if you’re in ny). also check out freeweddingclassifieds.com. maybe even craigslist? there are also three sites listed here on a previous post: http://www.weddingbee.com/2005/11/14/328/

hope this helps! :)

maybe you can try to see if your city is represented on http://www.craigslist.org. they have a lot of people selling wedding things on their classified.
I think there’s no fees either.

Try the buy/sell forum on Craigslist. It’s forum 1518. So when you click on “wedding” when you’re on the homepage of Craigslist then go up to your URL and change the number to 1518.
Good Luck!

i bought my dress from preownedweddingdresses.com after it had only been listed for about a week. i’ve seen others that stay on there forever. there is a listing fee.

also try thebrideslist.com.

for messageboards, just a caution, but you may get flamed for trying to sell your stuff there. especially if you are new, just posting for the sake of selling stuff, and not otherwise contributing to or participating in the community.

that’s actually a good point Miss Lime made about messageboards. i think the way you word something whether it’s on ebay, craigslist, messageboard, etc. has a big impact on whether or not something will sell, and how helpful people will be. perhaps adding a personal story and/or pictures might help so that you’re giving back to the community and not just taking. :)

I was a two dress bride. When I had to sell my first dress, I used craigslist (only got scam emails from them), preownedweddingdresses.com (small listing fee for placement, easy to use, but no hits from it) and finally, eBay, where I ended up selling it. I had to list it a few times on eBay, each time, dropping the price a little. It’s fitting too, because I bought it on eBay! I think the small size of mine was the hardest part of selling it. If you are a normal size, you shouldn’t have problems. Best of luck!

i agree w/ the point made my miss lime.
as it has been noted in other posts, not all wedding websites are as generally friendly & welcoming as weddingbee.
but i’d recommend preownedweddingdresses.com and liweddings.com as i’ve seen many brides peruse through and often purchase wedding items~ best of luck!!

i can’t wait for weddingbee to have a classified section one day!! :D

I’d say keep trying ebay. It gets the most traffic (but try craigslist also). I bought mine from ebay. Part of the problem is unless you have a very desirable designer dress (i.e. Vera Wang), you probably aren’t even going to be able to sell it for 50% of what you paid for it. I don’t know what your selling price is, but find a similar dress on ebay and try listing for around the same price. Best of luck!
