Favor Idea: Girl Scout Cookies

March 15th, 2007 @ 2:13 pm by Mrs. Bee

Today’s Daily Candy tells me that you can find out where a troop is selling girl scout cookies in your area by going to girlscoutcookies.org. So I rushed over to the site, entered my zip code, and am eagerly awaiting a response. Then it hit me - who doesn’t love girl scout cookies?! These would make totally awesome favors!

Thin Mints and Samoas are my favorite, but I haven’t met a girl scout cookie I haven’t liked yet!

Pictured: thin mints, do-si-dos, trefoils, tagalogs, samoas, all abouts, cafe cookies, thanks-a-lot (2006), cafe cookies, little brownies (2006), cartwheels (2006), lemonades (2007).

As noted, several new cookies and a brownie have been introduced in the past year or so. You could wrap individual boxes in pretty wrapping paper that matches your color scheme, or repackage the cookies in a cellophane bag with coordinating ribbon. However they’re packaged, I’d be thrilled as a guest to get girl scout cookies as a favor.

Do you have a favorite flavor?

I’ve never had any girl scout cookies. I shall locate a scout near me. Oh, another thing is that I notice comments are loading very slowly the past 2 days.

That’s a totally awesome idea! And they have such cool names.

Mmm…. Samoas by far! :) I have a great mock Thin Mint recipe that has gotten me through my cravings in non-GS cookie time! The Internet sure makes selling cookies so much easier! I had to trek door-to-door selling those 400 boxes each year!

Oh - and SusieCakes in Brentwood is currently making special treats with GS cookies for the whole month!

Being a 12 year girl scouter (sad, yes), keep in mind that as favors you can only get them “in season” (Feb/March)if you want to use as favors. While they do freeze well while still in the package, it’s an awful lot of space for a wedding of 200 or so!

I’m sick of thin mints after eating them for about 20 years, now the Samoas are my favorite! The Trefoil was better when it had sprinkled sugar over them.

And I agree with Gin, comments are soooo slow.

Also- the brownies are sugar free!! Have a bit of a sugar substitute aftertaste, but addictive while you eat them.

Tagalongs and Thanks-a-Lots are where it’s at! I feel so bad…I purposefully avoid the little darlings. I am working on slimming down for the wedding!

Tagalongs and Samoas are off the hook! Dang. I want some girl scout cookies.

May says:

those are some expensive favors… girl scout cookies run at $8 a box nowadays!

Tea says:

$8 a box? where? i thought they were only $3.50…but funny you should mention this, one of my coworkers just dropped 3 boxes of gs cookies in the kitchen for takers…i love the tagalongs and all abouts myself. yum-o!

Don’t worry Miss Kiwi, I too have been a girl scout all my life! I’m old enough to remember selling them for $2 a box. I was shocked and appalled when they said they were raising the price!

I love Thin Mints and Trefoils, but I hate that they renamed them. Samoa? What is a samoa? It’s a Caramel Delight (even though I don’t like coconut, so there’s no delight in it for me…)

Here’s a secret - when you need your Thin Mint fix, try the Grasshopper cookies made by Keebler I think. Exactly the same and made year round!

EE says:

Tea- the price of cookies is determined by that council’s board of directors. For ex. the council I work at charges $4, but the council next to us charges $3.50.

i’ve tried girl’s scout cookies only 2-3 times and surprise, i’ve never really liked them! maybe i tried the wrong kinds?? also, they’re $8 now?? yikes!!!

Thao says:

Ah. I didnt know they got to choose the price of the cookies. I remember them being $6/box in my area a few years ago, but now they’re selling them for $7/box.

I love the samoas!! *drool*

Liene says:

$8 a box?!? Dang that is one savvy eight year old businesswoman in the making!

They’re $4 now where I’m at and if they weren’t so darn addictive and full of nostalgia, my thighs would be a lot better off!

Ms YuMMie says:

I LOVE THIN MINTS! Last year, I brought 40 boxes (yes I know I’m crazy), only gave away a few boxes but ate the rest =P They are so YuMMie!

nursedrew33 says:

i had “thank you cookies” and “thin mints” on my candy buffet. I think they were the first thing eaten. I didn’t get one!!!
PS: Frozen thin mints are THE BEST!

Anon says:

kandaceandjason - There are two different cookie bakeries and depending on which bakery your cookies come from the names of some of the cookies differ and the cookie selection also differs. Thin Mints are, I believe, the only ones that are always called Thing Mints. Tagalongs = Peanut Butter Patties, Samoas = Carmel Delights, do-si-dos = Peanut Butter Sandwiches, and Trefoils = Shortbreads. If you look at the pictures of the cookie boxes they are labeled with the names from the different bakery than the names Mrs. Bee put below the cookie imaes.
