Experience of a Spa Virgin

March 16th, 2007 @ 5:56 pm by Mrs. Peach

Against the advice of some weddingbee readers, I couldn’t resist a FREE facial and took the risk on Tuesday at Mario Badescu. Since it’s my first time ever getting a professional facial or even being at a spa, I have nothing to compare to… but overall I enjoyed my experience!

As soon as I met my aesthecian, Madonna, I immediately told her of my situation: how I’m a newbie at getting a facial, how my wedding is just a week and half away, how I’m allergic to mangos, etc. Her facial expression read, “Whoa, calm down lady!” Haha. Anyways so she tells me to put on the robe and make myself feel comfortable and she disappears. This is when I begin to panic.

Ummmm… am I supposed to take off my shirt/bra and put on the robe? Or just put the robe over all my clothes? After some internal debating, I decided to keep my clothes on since I’m just getting a facial, and the only other time I wear a robe like that is when I’m getting a haircut and I def keep my clothes on for that. Anyways, I still don’t know if that was the “right” thing to do, especially when she started to massage my upper breast area and back of shoulder a little bit- she pushed my top-thank goodness I was wearing a wide neck sweater- and bra straps down to the side to do this, and I was thinking it would have been much easier if I had nothing on underneath.

Okieeee sorry for side tracking - back to the facial. She recommended that rather getting a regular facial, which includes extractions, to get two treatments instead: Seaweed and Vitamin C. I had to pay $5 extra on top of my gift card because these treatments cost more than the facial, but I was willing to do it. Basically, she just massaged my face, applied two different treatments that lasted about 20 min each and that was that. It was quite relaxing and I loved how my face felt when I was done!

Here are before and after pictures. I have no idea why I look so white in the second one, if that’s the facial or what because I took these pictures under the exact same lighting. Excuse the frumpy look.

Can you tell the difference? Nah, me neither. hahaha. Well if you look closely you could. It’s hard to see in these pictures… but if anything, my face FELT great! So soft and clean and my pores got smaller. ^_^

And I left with some goodies. Bought two things (on the right) and look at all the FREE samples they gave me on the left!

Miss Peach you are not ready for serious waxing if you panic like that! Good story and pictures.

Glad you enjoyed it - update us on how your skin still feels & looks after a few days! I’m glad your aesthetician was able to recommend a procedure for you that wouldn’t cause any acne flare-ups.

I lol’d at your story about the robe–that’s just the kind of stuff I freak out and worry about too! Like Laura S said–I’d love to hear an update after a few days! If you give the whole thing a positive review, I might have to try a facial myself sometime!

You’re supposed to get naked or at least topless, dear. Most facials include a neck and shoulder massage and sometimes hand and feet massage.

A few girlfriends and I recently went to a spa for massages. When they showed us to the changing area and the robes, we all panicked a little and asked the receptionist what was “proper.” God forbid one of us went “commando” when we didn’t have to LOL! Funny thing is, we’ve all gotten massages before and yet feel like we have to ask every time! Needless to say, we felt a little silly at first as we munched on fruit and sipped mimosas wearing nothing but a robe and our undies, but wouldn’t ya know it, we procrastinated getting dressed at the end! Let us know how it goes after a few days for sure!

i actually don’t wear clothes under my hair robe either- the whole point in my mind is to avoid hair (and i always see other shirts in the closet…) just never thought of doing it any other way!

for tips, I tip 20-25% or 30% on what it would have been if it was free.
