Ring Around My Finger!

March 16th, 2007 @ 11:40 am by Mrs. Kiwi

Miss Bluebell’s ring post yesterday reminded me of something I need for the wedding - my wedding band. I have to idea what actual band I want. My choices have been changing so much over the past year (since we got the engagement ring), because this band will be forever. I am so inspired by families who have heirloom pieces, and yeah, even though my ring will most likely not be totally fancy, I’d love to be able to have a meaningful piece to pass down.

This is my engagement ring:

ring

At first I wanted a plain WG wedding band, something engraved inside, much like this one from e-weddingbands.com ($56.00, 14k WG).

Then I decided I wanted a prong-set half eternity band, like this one from Facets/Signed Pieces in 18k WG, at 1.9mm and .33 carats of diamonds. Price: $534.00

ring3

After that, I wanted a plain band with a design on the outside, like this one by e-weddingbands.com. 3mm, 14k WG, $185.00

ring4

Now, my current favorite is the plain WG, with milgraining. This one is from e-weddingbands.com, and is 3mm 14k WG. $124.00.

What do you think would look better with my e-ring? I’d really like to wear them together, if that helps.

I think the prong set half eternity band matches your e-ring the best out of all of them.

I agree with Leslie, I think the prong-set half eternity band matches the best.

I also vote either for the prong-set half eternity band, or the plain band, I think the other choices might take away from your e-ring.

It depends how “blingy” you want to be. If you want the shine, the half-eternity band would match very well, as long as the ring is the same width and size as the gems on your engagement ring. Otherwise, I think the plain band would be best. The engraved band wouldn’t particularly match, nor would the millgrain. I think a simple, not too narrow plain comfort-fit band would look lovely, but then I happen to like plain bands a lot. Your wedding band is supposed to be worn all the time, in all circumstances–the gym, wherever. There’s a lot of places I wouldn’t wear a lot of diamonds that I would wear a plain band. I know some brides even have more than one wedding band, with a plain one for certain occasions, but I think your wedding band should be *your wedding band*–the one you were married with. It’s not interchangeable. Just my opinion.

Miss Kiwi - Our e-rings are very similar. Mine is a radiant cut with 3 small diamonds on each side. I have also been trying to decide what type of wedding band. My jeweler said there was a matching wedding band for my e-ring but I haven’t tried it on yet. For some reason I really like plain bands though. I guess I just always pictured myself with a plain band. I think it lets your e-ring really shine too. I also kind of like the idea that if FI gets a plain-ish band, ours could kind of match (cheesy, yes.) Anyway, something to think about also is whether you want your rings welded together. With the half-eternity you might want your rings attached so they always stayed aligned, does that make sense? Anyway, I’m not much help I guess since I still can’t decide, but good luck!!

Thanks guys!! I’m thinking of getting two bands, one with the stones, and one plain one. The plain being my “forever” band that I’ll have always.

jlz: Nice to know someone has a radiant, too!! I think a lot of people think it’s just really included, but it’s not! I sweat, it’s not dirty, either! And I totally agree on wanting to “match” the fiance. I’d do that, too, if I could.

Go with the half-eternity! I think it will look wonderful with the setting of your e-ring.
I am biased though. that’s what I am getting!

Be sure you go to a jewelry store and try these on! I originally thought I wanted a hand engraved band to match the engraving on my e-ring. But when I put it on next to the e-ring, it looked dull and uninteresting. So I ended up getting some prong set diamonds along the top and engraving on the rest of the band. It’s a little more bling than I wanted, but since I’ll mostly be wearing them together it makes a better choice.

i have a similar ring as yours except that my diamond is a solitaire. my fi bought the wedding band when he bought the engagement ring and it’s a prong-set half eternity band. because our engagement rings are so dainty and blingy, adding the half eternity looks so nice and extra shiny! no regrets on the eternity band! it’s not as complete with a diamond-less band!
