Fortunately, I have learned that both are not so bad if you squint your eyes and hold your breath. When I'm not planning our 180-ish (90% family!) person wedding, I like to poke fun at Mr. Broccoli, read big books, and drink endless cups of tea.

Guest Tablecloth : wedding guestbook Table

Hallmark Magazine recently published this little ritual from reader Judy Soman of New York: Since 1949, every time we have a family gathering we pull out a huge, cream-colored tablecloth and each person signs it. If something funny has happened, we write that down. When there’s a new baby, we might add the baby’s handprint. One year, my grandmother took my cousin and me to Europe, and we wrote that. After the holiday, we embroider what’s been written. The embroidery is amazingly dense, and of course there are stains, but our family document is all about continuity. It ties us together.

I love this! LOVE it! Wouldn’t this be a great idea for a guest “book”? I can’t embroider worth beans, but I’m sure I could get someone to do it for me after the wedding.

What a cool idea! And Miss B, embroidery is relatively easy–maybe you could teach yourself/have someone teach you? It could be a way to occupy yourself after all the wedding stuff is done :-)

Wow that is such a great idea. I love to entertain! A girlfriend found this one:

“ornaments are another way to go. you can buy those that you decorate yourself. place them in a bowl with markers and let your guest sign and decorate them. every year when you put them on your tree, you will have a reminder.”

there are so many ideas its hard to choose just one.

Miss Kakerwhart–I blogged not too long ago, about a high school friend who did just that for her wedding! Here’s a link, with a picture:

YAY! We’re actually doing exactly that for our wedding– my mom used to do that every Thanksgiving (our family hosted the event growing up) so it’s a family tradition…

My SO’s family does this at family gatherings as well! It’s really cute and fun to decorate!

A friend of my parents has a big quilt on her wall (it was on their bed for a very long time) that every wedding guest signed and then her mother embroidered for her. It is beautiful, and remains an adored treasure even 25 years later.
