My Hot Momma!

March 19th, 2007 @ 2:48 pm by Mrs. Emerald

We’ve got a winner in the dress category! For my mom, that is… she’s been on the prowl for something to wear to my wedding, so we spent the afternoon in the dressing rooms of Neiman Marcus, Lord & Taylor and Nordstroms. She had already gone through numerous outfit changes, all of which produced an “Ehhh… that’s just ok…” reaction from both of us. Taking her overall style into account, we figured she would end up getting a fairly traditional two piece mother-of-the-bride-ish type dress. Something like this:

She tried on numerous ones, but none of them really screamed “PICK ME!” We almost gave up until I pointed out a beautiful cream lace bolero, and she said, “I LOVE that!” Which drew me to a particular dress I thought would work with the cut of the bolero. When she put on the whole outfit, we both said, “WOW!” And here we have the winner (sorry for the poor camera phone pic)! I told her to place her hand at her waist, hehe.

It’s hard to tell, but the dress is actually a hot looking empire waist halter with a sweetheart neckline. The fabric a periwinkle blue chiffon. It gathers into a little twist in the middle, and the extra fabric drapes down, thus hiding my mom’s “tummy” which she is paranoid about (Spanx, perhaps?). I love that the dress makes her look really tall, and she is more comfortable with her upper arms are covered. The cost of the whole outfit (from Nordstroms)? Under $200! I was trying to find the bolero on nordstroms.com in case anyone was interested, but they don’t seem to have it. Let me know if you want me to find out the brand… it was only $75ish!

Although she really wanted to find a dress that would complement my deep red color scheme, I told her that it was much more important she find a dress that complements HER, and that makes HER feel pretty. After all, she’s gonna be walking me down the aisle too, along with my dad!

Next… she’s planning on growing her hair out a bit so its not so “poofy” on top

Damn she does look good! She’s got such a slim figure! I love it! I can’t get my mom to go dress shopping. She keeps insisting she has dresses in storage that she has never worn. But that makes me nervous!

I love it! I love the kitchen even more. I like the “poofiness” of her hair. I think it helps to give her more height. I agree with getting her that dress even though it didn’t fit the color scheme. It will provide nice contrast and interest in the photos.

I dont know.. (i’m not sure of the whole tone of your wedding, so this is just IMO) i think the bolero makes the whole outfit look more “casual”…. maybe you could find a more sheer bolero and/or one with some sleeves? something about the short sleeves makes it seem casual..?

I have to agree with Miss Plum. The blue dress looks stunning on her but the combo doesn’t work for me. The lace bolero looks very country/Laura Ashley while the dress looks sophisticated. If you want to keep the bolero (it does match your wedding gown nicely), maybe pair it with a different gown for the ceremony. Then have her switch into the blue gown with a nice shawl/wrap for the reception. Your mom’s hot though! She should rock what her momma gave her!

Hehe, thanks for the input ladies, I can kinda see where you are coming from…

But I think I will have a hard time getting my mom outta this dress cuz she LOVES the outfit, especially the bolero! The bolero looks better in person, I swear! Haha. But I figure, as long as she feels pretty and confident, then really thats all that counts. She can work it! hehe =)

Hate to say it, but the “bolero” looks like…a doily! :( Your mom is so cute, and the dress looks lovely otherwise….
