No, I don’t pronounce vase like “vahz,” despite my occupation. I also can’t remember if whatever “vase” is in french is female or male, nor what dilemma is, as is probably obvious from my title.

Anyway, time to get to the point, lime. I knew exactly what kind of centerpiece vessel I wanted, so I showed my florist the last page of my crazy floral RFP. White, semi opaque to opaque, cylindrical, low.

He said he’d have a hard time sourcing it, and that it’d probably be cheaper anyway if I found them. Then commenced a search high and low for this “thing” I could “see” in my head. Everywhere from the much touted Jamali Garden and save-on-crafts.com, to trade only catalogs at work, and to obscure Asian restaurant supply websites selling melamine noodle bowls. Somewhere in between, I realized I wanted it to be made of plain white, cased glass.

My favorites ended up being two from Ikea. One is meant for plants. One is meant to eat from.

My lefty vase friend, Tajt, is wanna-be cased glass, I think. See my hand? There is still a degree of transparency. My friend on the right, Forma, is microwave, oven, and dishwasher safe stoneware, FYI. Completely opaque. The lovely plant pot is too tall, though. I have this weird thing about keeping centerpieces as low as possible, you see.

The prices? Exactly the same. I want Tajt and Forma’s love child . Said child would have Tajt’s beautiful, transparent complexion, but unfortunately for love child, have Forma’s vertically challenged gene. From my worldwide [web] search, it seems they have not yet procreated. If they have, they have hidden the resulting love child, which I so covet, very well away.

Conclusion: I am using, the low, opaque [cereal/noodle] bowls. I may try one last place in Orange County when I’m next down there, but I highly doubt I’ll find anything better suited. Ah well, I am ze happy lime [meez la eem] since the shape, size, and color are perfect. Three out of four ain’t bad (fourth being material/degree of transparency, of course).

Only you could imagine a love child produced from a vase and a cereal bowl.
