Mixed Emotions

March 20th, 2007 @ 2:18 pm by Mrs. Peach

In a few hours Mr. Peach and I will be on a plane headed to Atlanta for our wedding. Many people have been asking me how I feel. My response: I dunno. I feel like it’s just been so crazy recently I haven’t had much time to think or let my feelings sink in. I think I’m excited and happy. At the same time I’m scared (not of marriage but of the actual wedding day- having to be in the center of attention) and also a bit sad. My mom just sent me this poem via email. She prefaced it by saying that this expresses exactly how she is feeling these days…

At My Daughter’s Side

by Linda Jo

Tomorrow was a lifetime away, now suddenly it’s here.
How did it happen so quickly? This wedding drawing near.
How can I act so happy? How can I act so gay?
When in such a very short time, I’ll give my daughter away.
I wish I could grasp a moment, and make the clock stand still
So I could let my heart catch up, but I know it never will.
All the worries of being a parent, all the battles won,
No one ever warned me about the day the job is done.
Yet, there is another side, where my heart is not as sad.

When I look in my daughter’s eyes, I can’t help but be joyful and glad.
This day she has dreamt about, for just about all her life.
She’s going to be such a beautiful bride and a loving, caring wife.
I’ll stand with the congregation as my daughter walks down the aisle
And even though there are tears in my eyes, my face wll bear a smile.
For I know that I was very blessed when God lent this child to me.
To love and care for and nurture, so she would grow up to be
This lovely, bright young woman, who tomorrow will be a bride
And as always I’ll be there, with love at my daughter’s side.

*sigh* so yeah… the little time I have had to absorb my feelings have left me confused… anyone else feel this?

5 more days! eeeekkk!

Whoa, you should have prefaced that poem with NSFW or something - it made me cry and I don’t even know you or your mom!

*dabs away tears and tried not to wreck mascara*

Lovely prose though, I love it. Have an absolutely FABULOUS time, you will be such a beautiful bride.

congrats! i wish it was my turn already.

the mixed emotions are totally normal and natural. let yourself feel all of them in the moment. no need to necessarily process it all until the end, just take each moment and the emotion it brings as it comes.

best wishes for a lovely day!

Man, I’m at work reading that poem and it made my eyes tear up. Over the weekend I let my mom read the words my fiance and I choose for our wedding invitations. She started bawling her eyes out! She said she didn’t know how she was going to get through the actual wedding day.

Good luck with everything.. enjoy the day!

totally with you. i was married last november and all that day, people asked me, “how are you doing?” which was a complicated question to answer. for me, it was like i was feeling a lot of emotions at once and although it was amazing, it was not all positive - i felt anxious, sad, joyful, expectant, delighted, nervous, confused - you get the picture. i felt like i was in the middle of a big transition (which i was) and while that implies that good things are ahead, it also implies leaving something behind. i thought i was doing something wrong (isn’t this supposed to be the ‘happiest day of my life’?), but in retrospect, it was totally normal and good for me. have a beautiful day and know that you are lucky to have such a wonderful caring mom!
