Save the Date Cards and Magnets!

March 20th, 2007 @ 11:00 am by Mrs. Snow Pea

We had our Save the Date cards printed by Expressway Printing ($54 includes cutting). I was so excited to finally be able to send them out and get it out of my hair. We mailed the STD cards out 8 months ahead of time because hotel prices were high and we wanted to give everyone enough notice. In addition, friends and family keep asking us about the wedding.

Here is the final design that we went with.

I used Frank Sinatra’s song New York, New York and tweaked the lyrics to read:

“Start spreading the news
We’re getting married this date
We want you to be a part of it
in New York, New York”

Here I am in our dining room with my little work station.

The back of the envelopes were stamped with an “apple” stamp I found on Ebay using gold or silver metallic ink. The font I used was called “New Yorker”. (and a shameful display of my ring).

The back of the STD with the map and wedding website. The printer made a mistake and printed it in black/white or gray. He charged me for color so I have to go back and try to get a credit for that.

In addition to our Save the Date Card, I made these simple magnets to go along with them. Originally I wasn’t going to do it, but I bought this 12″ x 24″ sheet of magnet paper last year at Joann’s for 40% off and it seemed like a waste if I don’t do anything with it. I was able to make just enough for a majority of the guests.

I used two different photos so people in the same “network” get a different one. That, and we also had so many e-pics from our photo session that I wanted to use them up.

I made each magnet 3″ x 2″ so that 4 magnets fit across the magnet sheet which is 12″ x 24″.

- Peel the backing off the magnet sheet.
- Gently lay the photo paper on top of the magnet sheet lining up the edges as much as possible.
- Using a cutter, firmly but gently, slice the photo magnets up. You only need to run the cutter through the sheet once and it should rip off with an easy bend. I wouldn’t run it over and over again for fear of ripping the paper. I do not recommend the use of a scissor. Using a scissor, you just cannot get a clean cut and it looks unprofessional.
- I didn’t do anything special to the card itself to attach the magnet to it. I am just throwing the magnet in there with the envelope.

All our guests love them! Whew!

Thank you for the compliments ladies,

I apologize. The name of the company is ExpressWAY printing. Click on my name for the link.

FYI, it was $54 with cutting, color on BOTH sides. Kinkos quoted me $105+ dollars for that!

great job! good use of stuff you already had, too. i’ve been trying to do that, but it hasn’t been working.

(psst. rockefEller center is spelled wrong. if it’s their mistake (aka not yours/not something you didn’t catch), you could use that for leverage for when you go back to talk to them about the non color printing on the back.

I recommend that you stamp a sample envelope before purchasing all your materials. The metallic ink contained oils. The red envelopes I purchased from lci paper took the ink very well. It took 1 day to dry. However, I bought some random envelopes from ACMoore for some STDs that I forgot to send out. The ink *never* dried, smudged and got all over your fingers. I loved the quality of envelopes from lci paper, but I did not appreciate the high shipping cost. I should’ve tried paperandmore.com first.

peas and carrots. that is too cute.

Miss Snow Pea says:

Thanks shortbread! :)

Thanks Tea, that was Mr. Snow Pea’s idea. When I told him he’s Mr. Snow Pea, he said No, I am Mr. Carrot because “We was like Peas and Carrots!” I told him nooo what if there is another bride who is Miss Carrot, then you can’t be Mr. Carrot! Sigh, we amuse eachother.

The map printer should give you another discount for the misspelling — should be “Rockefeller” Center not “Rockefellar” Center.

Magnets look gorgeous!

I bought large sized cardstock. 12×18 and laid out 3 STDs per sheet. So I had about 25 sheets printed. Front and Back, color, and cutting. I think you can email them for a price quote. It’s different for different sized cardstock, etc.

If you don’t want to share your template, would you mind sharing the dimensions and/or simple directions to create something like your trifold Save The Date? TIA. :-)

How did you do the Save the Date folded like you have it? What kind of paper did you use? Thank you!
