Dying My Feets

March 22nd, 2007 @ 3:09 pm by Mrs. Lily

I have to dye my shoes for the wedding and the clock is ticking.The lovely heels below are my final choice (CynthiaRowley, Tia), but their current snow-like hue just won’t do! They should be ivory and ivory they will become… if only I knew of a good dye shop.

I looked on the Knot and saw a few recommendations from another bride. They are:

* Top Service Shoe Repair (845 Seventh Avenue - 212.765.3190) - written up in In Style
* Angelo’s (666 Fifth Avenue / 53rd St. - 212.757.6364) - written up in NY Mag
* T.O. DEY (9 E. 38th St, 7th Fl - 212.683.6300) - written up in NY Mag

So here come the questions - are you all dying your shoes? And even if you’re not, do you know of a fabulous place in the City to get shoes dyed exactly to match? Merci lovely ladies!

No one is going to see my shoes under my dress. I’m spending as little on them as possible.

hey miss lily! go to T.O. Dey. I had to have 5 pairs of shoes dyed to a perfect bronze/pink/golden color. you just take a fabric sample, and they will dye it almost exactly!

when i took my fabric sample, they dyed a sample patch for me right there so that i could OK the color.

reasonably priced, and plus they work on custom shoes for celebrities all the time! pretty quick service too - only took like 1 to 2 weeks for 5 pairs or something like that.

Thanks, Mrs. Butterfly– you’re the best! It’s always better to go to a place that someone has had a good experience at. Glad you could vouch for this place!

An NYC designer told me she does tea dye. She literally makes tea and then soaks the fabric in it.

Other than getting away from blinding white, perfect color matching isn’t too essential because your skirt (um, unless it’s super-short) will make a shadow on your feet.

Is it true that if you have shoes dyed a dark color it can come off on your feet? If they get wet in the rain, or even if you sweat a lot? I adore my wedding shoes, and I’d like to get them dyed afterwards, but not if it’s going to come off. I was thinking of doing it for the wedding even, I like the idea of having blue shoes.

Another little know secret — Payless Shoes! It costs $38 per pair and they have numerous color swatches to choose from.
