Me and My Big Bad Dreams :)

March 22nd, 2007 @ 1:18 pm by Mrs. Emerald

My newest obsession: fabric draped walls.

You might remember that there is a particular checkerboard-looking wall in my ballroom that I absolutely cannot stand. The rest of the room is fabulous, but this wall just sticks out like a sore thumb! So I’ve been racking my brain for all sorts of ways to “disguise” it with lighting, etc. Finally, I realized that the best way is to cover it completely with fabric draping! Why didn’t I think of that earlier? Cuz it costs a crapload of money, that’s why! But I figured it doesn’t hurt to shop around and see what the going rate is, right?

So last night we met up with Deborah from Art of Imagination, at our venue. She specializes in draping, lighting and decor. I looovvveee her style… so dramatic and romantic, everything I could ever dream of! And she is SO detail oriented, I can only imagine what she could do with my space. Not to mention she is super nice and had so many exciting ideas for me! Here are some samples of her past work.

Now imagine my checkerboard wall draped in ivory fabric, with some amber lighting for ambiance… *swoon* Now I’m just scared to hear the estimate… her usual going rate for the draping is generally $25/foot (that wall is over 60 feet long).

Mr. E totally agrees that the room would really benefit with the draping. However, he is also very concerned about the cost. But he said that we’ll wait for the estimate before deciding anything. I have promised to stick within our budget, and that I will shift things/remove things in order to make it work.

*sigh* A girl can dream, right…?

I’m having the same problem. Do you know anyone based out of New Jersey/New York who specializes in fabric draping? I’m not having any luck with google search.

I think the “checkerboard” walls look nice — kind of Japanese style? And it disguises the doors, which will be nicer in photos.

If you drape fabric over the walls, what will you do about the doors since they’re checkered, too?

I think draping would give it the funeral-home look. How about something done with that rasturbator site some one put up? It would be much less expensive.

Iris, yea, for some reason that wall does look like a japanese shoji screen in pictures, but when you see it in person, its not so hot…. Very conference room-ish =/

They know how to handle the doors… not sure what the correct term is for what they do, but the fabric will gently drape across the openings. I’ve seen pics, it looks pretty cool.

And I dunno about the whole funeral home look, but I personally dont think it looks like one! haha.

I think the room looks beautiful even with those walls.
